Thailand consumer protection

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I have taken my car for a general painting, minor blemishes.

I took it to what appeared to be a very good agent, with 2 paint booths with ovens, but the painting was terrible, with very bad orange peel.

I refused to accept the car in that state.

They have told me that they will fix the problem, but I very much doubt that it will be fixed.

I used to be an ex bodywork specialist, so I know what to expect.

So my question is what recourse action I can take?

My options seem to be to refuse to pay, or call the police 1155.

Any opinions grateful.

There is a consumer protection office at the government office complex at Chaeng Wattanna, Bangkok.

My wife used them when we had a problem with our truck and the main dealer was unhelpful.

They set up a meeting between the two parties and listened to both sides of the story.

After no agreement was made, they suggested my wife take the dealer to court. They did all the paperwork for her. Finally, on the day of the court hearing, a settlement was made, (Which we were very happy with) 'Out of Court'.

This was a free service. We paid nothing.

Don't waste your time with the police.

Get a lawyer. Usually it only takes one phone call.

I've had a couple of instances like this. Once they know you mean business, their attitude undergoes a remarkable change.
