Police escorted the accused man, Mr Yutthana Madee or ‘Ai Jab’, as the Criminal Court ordered his detention at Bangkok Remand Prison when family members and the police objected to a bail request. He faced charges connected with the brutal killing of his granddaughter, the use of illegal narcotics and the concealment of her body.

The Ministry of Justice has offered to expedite assistance to the distraught family of the young girl who met a brutal end at the hands of a family loved one. Her grandfather was taken to Bangkok Remand Prison after police and family members strongly objected to a bail request on Thursday.

The Criminal Court on Thursday denied bail to a middle-aged grandfather who appeared before it on charges in connection with the brutal murder of his granddaughter in the city last Sunday. The case has caused public outrage and shock in the city prompting the Ministry of Justice to encourage the distraught family to apply for compensation under 2001 legislation for the victims in criminal cases.

A grandfather who murdered his young granddaughter was denied bail by the Criminal Court sitting in the Ratchadapesik road area of Bangkok on Thursday when brought before it charged in connection with her death.

Grandfather? the man doesn't look older than 30-35 years old, having said that, 'outrage' is the least you can feel toward a monster such as this man.

Do the math.

12 year old girl, mother conceived at 15, grandmother at 14.

Very poor factual reporting.   The scumbag is the boyfriend of the deceased's 31 year old Aunt (he is 29 years old).    She had been living with them since being abandoned by her own family, and was apparently always in trouble.   This occasion they caught her stealing dietary supplements that they were packing for sale, so he decided to beat her to death with a baseball bat.

The Thai word for niece, laan saao, confusingly, is also the Thai word for granddaughter.

Like many mummy boy Thai males who feel entitled, there is an explosive, mindless rage when they get annoyed.

He deserves to be put away for a long time (he won't get executed).

Why did he kill her , maybe he was molesting her and she was going to tell.

there's a lot more to the story that is printed here ,like most articles on ASEANNOW

you never get the full story , and there's never any follow up , so you never get to know.

No more ridiculous than your initial comment of "So, giving the family baseball makes no sense." I am sure some family members would like to extract some form of punishment

The forum is all about opinions.  You're welcome to think that my opinion that 'giving the family baseball bats makes no sense' is ridiculous.  I have little time for such over-the-top responses to tragic crimes, but appreciate that some still hanker after a medieval system of justice!

You are also welcome to your opinion, I would agree that if the police or courts did hand down reasonable punishment for crimes that could set a deterrent there would be no requirement to offer a medieval (to use your words) form of punishment!! - Do have a good day
