A Thai man in Pattaya stole a pickup truck from a delivery man but was quickly arrested by police. The suspect desperately claimed that he missed his home in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, and needed to steal the truck to get there.

Pattaya police on Monday, July 24th, arrested an alleged car thief, Mr. Sao Songsaeng, a 27-year-old beach chair rental vendor at Pattaya Beach, while he was trying to flee the city in a stolen white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck.

According to the police, they received a complaint from the delivery driver, Mr. Somchai Khetkhan, 47, that his truck, parked on Pattaya-Naklua Road with a running engine, had been stolen by a male suspect.

Kinda sad. Someone probably told him to head to the tourist areas where all the work is. And he ends up shilling umbrellas for Pattayas finest. Going nowhere and making nothing, he asks wth he's doing here. And just has the urge to escape.

Or just a lazy thief that did not want to take public transport - my money is on my story - not yours

If he could afford the fuel, he could afford the bus ticket.

A local delivery truck with enough diesel for a 920 km trip? (approx.)

Almost 600 miles for our nonmetrics

If he stole the truck, stealing fuel would have been a given.????

He wasn't planning to drive it home anyway. He was panning to sell it, obviously.

I highly doubt he was telling the truth.  Sounds better than 'I though ghosts were chasing me, after being on yaa maa for 3 days'
