The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) frigate HTMS Naresuan has reportedly suffered damage to its torpedo launcher and life rafts following a recent naval exercise at the Map Ta Phut industrial estate.

RTN Spokesperson Adm Pokkrong Monthatphalin said the incident occurred on July 26 as the frigate was leaving the port after participating in the “Naval Security Port and Ship Map Ta Phut Exercise 2023” (NASMEX 2023), a three-day exercise aimed at testing the readiness of defense systems against potential maritime threats.

According to Adm Pokkrong, the damage occurred when the starboard side of the frigate accidentally struck the corner of the port wall. No casualties were reported. In response to the incident, a committee has been established to conduct a thorough investigation and determine the cause of the accident. Naval experts are meanwhile assessing the extent of the damage sustained by the frigate.

It appears the only threat being the deployment of the navey vessels ........................LOL

Goodness me if they can't handle a motorbike or pick-up truck what the hell are they doing being allowed to drive a frigging great frigate (pun intended)

Not surprising given that the Navy doesn't even know port from starboard.  The frigate hit the Southwest corner of the pier with its PORT side on exiting.

Source:  My girlfriend works at the company who owns the pier, and she was actually in the 'war room' set up on their premises for the NASMEX exercise.  She is a sailor and unlike these Navy morons, does actually know port from starboard on a vessel.

Can't wait for the Subs to arrive, with the gulfs mean depth of 57 meters, How high is the sub, what is the draught of a frigate, come to that the ferries draft using the gulf.

HTMS Troutbridge? " Starboard ,look out here.

Who wrote that?

Thailand's massive army is a massive waist of Taxpayer money.

Committee findings will reflect that the port wall was in the wrong place hence causing the collision.

The starboard side of the vessel allided with the port wall, ie. the vessel's hull hit the wall of the port. No mention of the vessel's port side at all.

Maybe you need tutoring on basic nautical terminology from your sailor girlfriend?

The vessel was facing due South when departing.  The only side that COULD have hit was the port side as it motored away in a Southerly direction since the pier in question is Westerly facing. Actually it hit what's called a 'dolphin' just off of the pier, not the wall of the port.  I've seen the footage.  My point is that a Thai Navy ADMIRAL ranked officer didn't report correctly which side hit.

My guess is the Thai translation to English from original article was wrong, but who knows.  The footage quite clearly shows the port side of the frigate hitting, and the article quite clearly states that the starboard side hit the pier.
