Shall I Move to Permanently to Thailand?

I live in the USA for six months and in Thailand for six months (September to mid March). I use an agent assisted retirement visa for 12,500 BHT in Pattaya (I know there are other options for free/low cost but it best suites me for now). I am 63 and waiting for 67 when I get my full SS annuity from FRA at $3500/month. I have been drawing $3K from my savings for my expenses in the USA and also in Thailand. I have a condo in Pattaya. I don't drink but smoke weed almost everyday. Getting an intimate date with a sugar baby in the USA costs an average $5K in addition to my monthly expenses. Hence, my saving is also dwindling rapidly.

I ran a Montel Carlo simulation with 5-7% market return to see how long my savings will last using the mean average of my monthly expenses of the last year and the outcome is not good. It will last 10 more years when I included my 3.5K SS from the age 67.

I was thinking if I move to Thailand for 11 months a year, I can reduce my expenses and also have more intimate dates with sugar babies and  my savings will last longer. 

Here are my planning. 
1. An insurance if I live in Thailand for 11 months. 
2. Get an LTR visa at 67 (Need some other type of income like some type of immediate annuity for remaining 40K required for 80K USD monthly pension requirements).

What are your thoughts? Is it a workable solution for my predicament?

You can do everything you've listed for far less than what you posted but that would require a change in your lifestyle to some extent. You control that. No more 5K a month hookers which is extreme high. I don't know that I would go the LTR Visa. I would stay with the Retirement Visa and take the burden of continually having to generate the excess income while retired and get that off the table. It all comes down to balance so your money lasts and you still have a good lifestyle. You definitely don't want to end up with no savings to fall back on should you need later in life.

From experience, people who have difficulty controlling their spending in home country usually end up spending much more than they expect in Thailand.

 

The good news is that, having exhausted your savings, with a regular $3,500 per month coming in, you can still have a reasonable quality of life if you avoid going into debt. Worst case, if you own your condo, it will most likely be worth a fair bit if you sell at the right time.

 

I am not going to preach about the evils of regular weed use, but observation suggests that not working, and smoking often, you can expect a fairly rapid rate of cognitive decline. That will not help when it comes to impulse control.

 

As far as visas are concerned, it is difficult to say at this point what is going to work best. Unless your condo in Pattaya can cover the investment requirement for the LTR-WP visa, I suspect it is not going to be a viable option, but it will be possible to find something.

Your financial situation is perfectly fine for Thailand. Why do you hesitate?

And it seems there is no reason for you not to try. Live here for 18 months and see how you like it and how much you miss the USA.

 

Many of us live in Thailand because we want to live in Thailand, not because it is cheaper than elsewhere.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere only because it's cheaper.

If you're spending $5000 on an intimate date whilst in the USA rather than waiting until you're next in Thailand, I have a funny feeling you'll end up spending way more than you think you will over here.

 

I doubt you'll save money. You may (or may not...) have a more enjoyable time with the money you do spend, but just be careful you don't end up blowing the lot.

You can get a sugar baby for $2K/month here who will sleep with you in her birthday suit for at least 15-day/month. Let's say other expenses are $1K USD for her. You will be left with $2K USD per month in saving compared to sugar babies in the USA, assuming you are dating one baby a month in the USA. So, for 6 month saving it's 12K USD or in ten years it's 120K. Assuming 7% rate, your 120K will be around $350K. You can delay your SS to 70 and collect another 25% more than your $3500 at FRA. 
 

Communication with your Thai sugar babies may not be at par with a USA sugar baby asking for 5K. A sugar baby asking for 5K can hold a conversation on at least two to three subjects but if you are into it for physical intimacy, Thailand is the place for your and that will lengthen your savings another decade maybe.

If you have already lived there and own a condo here why is it you even need to ask these questions? Doesn't make sense to me. But here is my advice anyway.

 

The only problem I see is you are grossly over paying for your "sugar baby" services. Forget that sh*$%t.

 

Personally I would never pay for a live in girlfriend. It is a total farce and illusion. I've bedded down plenty of girls who have so called "boy friends" who pay them a monthly salary. It's a joke. I know of more than a few who are never loyal to their "sponsor". I was the guy on the side for a go here and there or as a "real" not for profit boyfriend.  I don't want to be one of those suckers who is paying a girl to be steady meanwhile turning tricks when she can get away with it. Or worse has a real boyfriend (Thai or another farang - I have been the real boyfriend in one circumstance) 

Just get yourself some fun every other day at 1.5k baht a time in Thailand and your budget will fall in line and more than pay for a comfortable living in Pattaya.

He has mentioned about buying an immediate annuity to cover the gap between his social security and 80K USD requirements. What is the requirement for the LTR visa for wealthy pensioner?

Why get a LTR wealthy pensioner visa? He could just continue to use the Non O for retirement with yearly extensions.. no brainer in my view.

If your pension is less than US$80,000 per year, you need a US$250,000 investment in Thailand. (An annuity to raise his pension to US$80,000 would be very costly.)

The LTR visa (for those who qualify) has significant benefits. That is without considering the very real possibility that the requirements for a Non O based on retirement will change over the next few years.

Why not just use the Non - O for purpose of retirement with the annual extension? Tack on the multiple re-ntry permits. Why use a LTR wealthy pensioner visa?

What is most likely to change? I would bet it's the amount held in a Thai bank. Even if it goes up 100% that's still only about $50k USD at current exchange rates. I have a distinct feeling that VISA agency services will still be available to take care of the lack of lump sum problem as well... not my choice as I like to DIY my immigration business but he could opt for an agency as the years go by and more than likely achieve a long term visa for purpose of retirement or other LTV.

The average sugar baby in the USA will ask at least 2K and they are older more like late 20 or early 30. A college going 22/23 years old sugar baby will ask for 5K for an intimate date with a 63 year old man. It is really not that expensive. Some girls are in it for dining/entertainment only and will reject you after the entertainment. Finding a young girl in the USA for an old man is not cheap unless you want to pick up a street hooker and every city does not have street hookers. Escorts are asking for at least 300-500 USD for one hour.

you're right. An immediate annuity to raise 4K USD/month will cost him at least 500K-600K.

Yea, easy to solve this problem. Live in Thailand, don't pay for a live in girl friend otherwise known as a sugar baby, jump on Thaifriendly, get himself a list of gals he likes and call them up every other day at average 1.5k baht a go.

If the OP can't make this kind of adjustment than maybe some money should be spent on therapy to determine why he's so stressed out about having to NOT have a sugar baby around all the time.

once you have brought the car, bike, flat tv you can very easily live on $3,500 /month
I've been here since the mid 80's,  seldom do i spend more than $3,000/month ( an when i did it was cause my daughter was in International school) 
now its under $1,500 for 2 of us

Having a hard time believing the OP's concern about $3500 a month to live in TH, exceeding most expats income (or so I read), and wants a bit more, when already paying $5k a month for sex in the USA.

 

With that type of income/expense, why not just find some friends w/benefits.

 

Guessing a troll, or he is really fat, ugly, or lacks any personality, or simply extreme introvert.

 

I can understand P4P on a holiday, as simply convenient, but on a daily life existence in your home country long term.  I must be missing something or lived a different lifestyle than many.
