Police have taken a 65-year-old US citizen into custody on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor. He was arrested because the grandmother of the 8-year-old girl claiming to be the victim, accused him.

If found guilty, the accused faces severe punishment under Thai law, potentially including jail time. This case has left the local community in shock and led to an outcry of public condemnation, reported Naew Na.

Advocates for child safety are pressing for more stringent laws to guard the rights of children and prevent such horrifying acts. Support for the young victim is being extended by local child protection agencies.

As the investigation continues, the Thai authorities will keep the public updated on the legal proceedings. Phayao City Police are encouraging anyone with additional information related to this case to step forward and aid the investigation.
