What's the point of many many new threads?

I've also noticed these posters who are extraordinarily active and seem to post a lot of trivial stuff that gets a lot of engagement.

So then, what is your standard for "trivial"?

And, what is your standard for "non-trivial"?

This is a completely qualitative measurement.

As such, it cannot be easily quantified.

Would you define a trivial post as one that panders to the lowest common denominator of the readership?

If so, then would a non-trivial post cater to the opposite side of the readership spectrum?

And, is it even possible to write a Topic which is acceptable to all readers, trivial or not?

Personally, I have nobody on my ignore list.

I TRIED to ignore "Somebody", but apparently "Somebody" simply cannot be ignored.

Ho-hum, says Tweedledum and Tweedledee... ' 'I know what you're thinking about,' said Tweedledum: 'but it isn't so, nohow. ' 'Contrariwise,' continued Tweedledee, 'if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't."

Such is life, I guess.

  • I don't think this is a catch-22 situation. I think the OP made a valid observation and asked a valid question.

I don't want to debate how to classify something as trivial or not. As you noted that's subjective. I just noticed that there are some people opening threads or posting comments on a lot of what - to me - seems rather trivial stuff. Stuff that nontheless gets a lot of posts and engagement. At an extraordinary rate. Clearly it is also not possible to write stuff that is acceptable to all readers. But that's not the benchmark here. It's just an arbitrary point where people notice "that's a bit too much of it". And that's where it ends already. An observation, nothing too serious imho.

Well, in actuality, and truth be told, I rarely read most Topics and Comments, simply because I find them to be repetitive, and also to be just a rehash of topics that have already been discussed, and for my tastes, many of these types of Topics are, as you say, a bit too much.  But this is not to say that they are not also a valuable contribution to the forum.

I am reading this Topic because I find it interesting, as it concerns the repetitiveness of what is continually being posted.

Understandably, since I sometimes find it difficult to find Topics concerning topics that I have not seen before, I choose to write my own Topics which seem much less of the same-old, same-old; and who here cannot provide many examples of the same old topics I am referring to?

Since somebody here recently mentioned the strategy of "ignoring" certain writers on this forum, I can only state that I think announcing the fact that one has "ignored" a member or members seems much "over done", and rather pretentious, and even a bit aggressive in nature. If I were to go so far as to "ignore" a fellow member, then I certainly would not be so impolite and disrespectful as to announce to everyone that I had done so. I mean, what is the real purpose in making such an announcement?

What topics do I, personally, find non-trivial?  I would say that most, if not all, topics on the Western Food forum are interesting and non-trivial. I actually read these with interest. But I won't mention, here, the topics I find stupid, just because some readers might enjoy reading them, and also have fun commenting on them.

I never write a Topic for the purpose of being irritating to anyone. There would be little gratification for me in doing that. Not everyone here has grown up in the same culture, and we definitely know that humor is cultural, just as movies are cultural, and just try watching a Bollywood film if you disagree with me.

Fortunately, when we view the many Topics being posted on the forum, it's not like listening to "radio" where one is forced to listen to one topic after the next until one finally can listen to what one chooses or likes...

I find it quite easy to read down the list of Topics available, and then to click on any topic which strikes my fancy. If, by some great misfortune, I happen to click on a topic that I do not appreciate, I can easily stop reading, and quickly click on a different topic. So...I am completely OK with what is on offer on TV, and I would not wish to go out of my way to restrict the posting of Topics that others may enjoy, even though these same topics might not be exactly my cup of tea.  And speaking of tea, most on this forum prefer tea from the UK, or suppliers in the west or in Ceylon, for example. I think these teas stink. And I do not buy them for this reason.  I have a choice.  And so I choose to drink Chinese teas...  Are you able to understand this analogy? I am using "tea" as a metaphor and I wonder if this might just fly above your heads or something....

Well as a parting thought: there is the fast, effortless and tasteless stuff and then there is the opposite of the spectrum. Not necessarily a better beverage though.

He?

I have at least 3 annoying users in mind.

But obviously they could all be the same person.

And if the person(s) are hired to create traffic (to better sell the site), then I guess they won't go on any holiday

It goes down the drain with 3-4 users who spamming the forum with same kind of treads on speed.

And again, the scale tipping on the other end of being a useful tool for those who live here, and for those visiting one time or frequently.

Complete taken over by forum Troll's ????

Is it worth the time spent here anymore? I do not think so.

I think the fly got bored of the verbal diarrhoea and flew off!

PS; I know it was written and mot spoken in this case before the pedants strike!

Not pointless per se, but many that don't belong on the Lounge eg washing machine queries??????????????????

I don't see anything controversial on the first page of threads and I don't normally look further.
