In response to the recent online media buzz, several temples in popular tourist destinations were found to be renting space to foreigners for the sale of counterfeit monk amulets and sacred objects, resembling coin exchange centers.

Today (August 17), the Phuket Provincial Administration invited relevant agencies, including the Director of the Provincial Office of Buddhism, Director of the Provincial Tourism and Sports Office, local police, and tourist police, to discuss collaborative measures, reported Siam Rath.

The meeting, chaired by Lt. Col. Jirasak Siamkasem, Vice Director of Phuket Provincial Police, led to orders for investigation by Lt. Col. Tharagorn Pickaew, Vice Director of Phuket Provincial Police.

The inspection found that each temple had adhered to the resolutions of the 9th Sangha Assembly with regard to countering fraudulent sales within temple premises. No illicit rental or sale of sacred objects was discovered.

Of course not... only dirty foreigners would do such a thing.

There's an easy way to tell if an amulet is fake or not. If it helps you to win the lottery or survive a traffic accident, then it's the real deal.

A clear case of orange-washing here.
