Hopefully not having his (Trump) presence at debates will give the others confidence to destroy Trump.

Given the public record about Trump, if he hasn't been destroyed in the minds of his supporters by now, what could any of these candidates say that could possibly make a difference? Abracadabra?

Might be the start of rumors that he's not running, or that he's planning on running away.  All these comers know that if he drops out it's a whole new primary.

He's a member of the Republican party, if he refuses to show up for his parties debates, he should get kicked out of the party.

But they don't let me make the rules, 555

Considering the last election's Rep debates, they are a bit of joke.  Basically all questions were either to him, or about him.  Pointed out a few times times during those debates.

Debate opens and they state your policies, then a giant bash fest, only good for TV ratings.  All quite embarrassing really.

Only an idiot would watch them again, and sadly, too many millions of those.

My punt is he doesn’t want to put his cognitive decline on full display.

I assume you mean Trump as that is the topic title?

If so I am in total agreement as he seems to have lost his marbles with all his recent ranting and ravings!

That an the fact he was rushed in the middle of the night to Walter Reed to be administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Test.

Not sure there's an obvious decline. He's always been like that.

Why should Trump debate the Keebler Elves?  His lead in the polls is greater than all the wannabes combined.  Robot Ron I believe has dropped to 3rd place amongst the rest of the midgets after his latest political blunder that further exposed him as not MAGA.  And Rupert Murdoch is beside himself wondering who else he can get to run that has a snowball's chance in hell of taking Trump on.  News flash . . . there ain't anyone else.

That's highly debatable.  Quite a few independents/moderates abandoned Trump in 2020.  And now that he's an indicted felon, you think they're going to come back to him?  That bridge was burned long ago.  Someone like Tim Scott or Chris Christie would certainly do better than Trump with independents/moderates.  The problem for the Republicans is no matter who they nominate that's not named Trump, a big chunk of their base will probably sit out the 2024 elections.  Which is a shame as I think someone like Scott or Christie might be more of a unifier for the country.

If Trump was so unpopular with rational Americans then explain his huge lead over Biden in the polls?  And are you implying that Americans who support Trump are only irrational?  That would not be very rational for you to suggest that, would it?  It certainly wouldn't be true.  But hey, who cares about truth, right?  This is politics!!

Some on the right are already suggesting that by Trump skipping the primary debate(s), Joe Biden can certainly do the same when the general election comes around.

[According to The New York Times over the weekend, Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna McDaniel reportedly warned Trump that by skipping the debate he could give Biden an excuse to get out of debating him should they face one another again on the ticket in 2024.]

Others in conservative media agreed.

["If Donald Trump says 'Everybody knows me, I don't need to do it,' then Joe Biden does, 'Everybody knows me! I'm the president," Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy said on the program Monday morning.]

Not according to the polls which everyone here loves so much (as long as they're favourable).

Not sure if you've noticed but his indictments are strengthening him.  Why?  Because so many see the indictments as political persecution and election interference.

The bridge has not been burned.  People are still crossing over.  To Trump.  That includes independents, blacks and Hispanics.  You can deny that if you wish.  Even the MSM has admitted the fact.  To their chagrin, I might add.

Christie is joke.  I don't know how else to put it.  Emerson College has him at 9%.  Do you understand how weak that is?  Why?  Because he's a joke, a RINO, a globalist, and a political parasite.  What more reasons does one need?

There's reality and there's fantasy.  Your fantasy is my reality and my reality is your fantasy.  We can't both be right.  But I know which is which.
