Holep sugery and retrograde ejaculation: Do you have it and what is it like?

Featured Replies

I have a prostate the size of a butternut pumpkin.

Fortunately my PSA reading is .7 and well within range.

I am still relatively young but have trouble peeing and take 12 mg of doxazosine daily.

I am not fat, exercise obsessively, do not drink, do not smoke.

I eat a squeaky clean diet, no refined sugar, no bread, no hi GI foods, lots of tomatoes, pumpkin seeds and organic cruciferous veges I grow myself.

I am planning to undergo Holep if things worsen...

I have been researching this procedure and note there is a very high risk of retrograde ejaculation.

The prospect of "coughing dust" does not entrall me, however my greater concern is that RE would basically mean I was infertile.

I have no kids, but have not ruled out entirely having one on the horizon.

I would be grateful to hear anyones actually experiences regarding their prostate surgery, Holep, turp or otherwise, and specifically any issues you had regarding retrograde ejaculation.

I would also welcome any personal experiences using finisteride but I do not want that to be the core theme of this thread.

Have at it lads.

I strongly recommend against having a baby.  But if you do good luck.

Since you want to  keep your  fertility, you should  get "Prostate artery embolisation", available in Singapore.

If you go  for Holep you have only one option, which is to make a deposit in a Sperm bank.

Now, you wont like what comes next, I have now retrograde ejaculation, my very large gland, my age (71), finasteride, doxy, and possibly the vasectomy have united to give me this mildly unpleasant disability. But the orgasm is still good, if not better, strangely.

But in your case I'd go for embolisation first. There is plenty of good reading around so just google  it.

I have done what you are contemplating to do. Result: Ejaculate consists of 2 drops. Rest goes into the blatter. The blatter not familiar with this strange fluid reacts by fighting this "intruder". 1 day after ejaculation, urinating comes with a burning sensation. And yes, with those 2 exiting drops remaining, you will be basically infertile.

AFAIK only done with old males. To suggest this procedure to younger males (still in their reproductive phase) is outrageous.

I am already heavily subscribed to the quackery cures.  I eat pumpkin seeds morning and night and tomatoes and other fruits with lycopeen.  I don't mind those supposed remedies because that are actually foods...and quiet tasty as well.

Can you please elaborate on what daily dosage of the nettle capsules you took and over what duration to reduce your prostate.

I am a tea totaller and drink only the best imported black tea.  But I drank it white and sweet.  I am also a big cake and candy guy.  I am very fit and healthy so weight was never a problem.  But I have ditched all refined sugar.  I have a peppermint plant in my back garden and now, each morning I make myself a cup of lemon peppermint tea.  I don't really miss the black tea to be honest.

I already eat a lot of avocadoes, but I also loved eating cuacomoli on toast for breakfast.  But I have ditched bread entirely and so am struggling to find something "crunchy" to accompany my avos.  I tried baked slices of sweet potatoe, and that kind of works...you reheat them from the freezer in your toaster....but still a bit lack luster.....it is not so much the taste of bread...but the texture that I miss....and the convenience.

I took one capsule per day. After about a month or sooner you should notice a change. But do your own research.   https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/stinging-nettle

Sadly PSA is a very unreliable indicator. See below:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-66507893

Extract:

Of the 303 who had both tests, 48 had a positive MRI that indicated cancer and of these 25 were diagnosed with significant cancer after further tests, including biopsies.

More than half the men whose cancer was picked up on MRI had low PSA test scores below 3ng/ml, which is considered normal, and so would have been falsely reassured they were free of disease.

At this point, you are very vulnerable to any sort of "hokus-pokus". But that's what you look for, dening regular medical advice. Good luck.

I'm not saying it will work, but have you read up on Saw Palmetto for prostate?

I would plainly walk in a reputable hospital and check with the urologist or similar specialist for such issues.

I am pretty sure OP has seen  a doctor, but Urologists love to cut, especially in Thailand where money is everyting and Farangs are walking ATMs. Yes, go get a  diagnostic but educate yourself and make your own decisions.

If you start taking Finisteride forget about ejaculation,I'm taking tamsulosin since 3 years. It helps to get a good amount of sleep at night but it doesn't stop the prostate from growing, and ejaculation 90% down. 6months ago Doctor in Germany prescribed Finisteride, now ejaculation is zero not even hot air,but the prostate started shrinking.Doctor said It will help for a while but at some point in the near future I will need a surgery

I took Saw Palmetto for years and until recently was up to three 200mg capsules in the late afternoon. It was definitely effective for me but this year I had begun to feel less so. So in the last two months I tapered off and stopped them, started the 16/8 hour daily fast (eat only between 6am and 2pm in my case), eat a bit less and better and have dropped off 8 kgs (a <deleted>-ton more needed). I'm finding the prostrate issues as measured by frequency of pisses particularly overnight is improved. I find the 16/8 fast easy and having no problems coping with it even while reducing my food. Soon (or later) I need to introduce exercise (beyond lawn mowing) to the regime but eventually I know some form of surgical intervention will probably be likely.

This time last year I was listed at Guy's hospital for the Holep procedure and I was given a bed in the Urology ward. When my Consultant came round he asked me if I would be interested in having a new robotic procedure called Aquablation as someone else had cancelled. He explained that the outcome would be the same as a Holep but much less intrusive. After our discussion, I agreed, and thus became the first person to have this new procedure where the prostate is, in effect, hollowed out a bit to allow the urethra an unrestricted passage through. I have had no side effects, no discomfort and no change to the enjoyment of my sex life and I'm not far short of eighty. Hope that helps.

Does anyone know if "Prostate Artery Embolisation" is available in Thailand ?

It isn't.  The nearest is Singapore.

I don't even know if there is any Interventional radiology happening in Thailand at this stage.

I'm on keto so had the same problem as you giving up bread. I've sourced numerous different "keto breads" on Lazada. All are fairly revolting. The only one I reorder now is tolerable with a lot of butter (very keto) and well toasted. It's made by Dancing with a Baker, is expensive by normal bread standard, but a loaf lasts me a week. Eat with well flavoured toppings. Cheese, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs etc. Also, recommend erythritol as a sugar substitute.

One of the benefits of Holep (or TURP) is that the removed tissue can be submitted to the pathology lab for cancer evaluation. Would you know if that's the case with Aquablation?

And they did nothing to reduce the size of mine. Finasteride & doxy every day for 5 years or so, very little ejaculate, but she's not bothered by that. PSA 0.9 and not too big.

This new 'discovery' that an MRI scan is better at detecting cancers looks promising, but only tested yet on 300 blokes.

Thanks. Where exactly did you have the proceedure, here in Thailand or someplace else.

Long ago, when a BPE was detected, a friend advised me to take daily Saw Palmetto.
He was taking this already more that a year and he (his BPE) had good results.
It helped me a few months, but then it showed no benefit.
