Sickly Thaksin Involved Hands-On In Allocation Of Cabinet Portfolios

A SICKLY THAKSIN SHINAWATRA, the de facto Pheu Thai boss, has managed to virtually put his hands on the business of compromising and allocating cabinet portfolios among varied coalition partners, a partisan source said today (Aug.23).

 

Having been transferred from Bangkok Remand Prison to the Police Hospital for illnesses reported by prison officials in the middle of the night, the deposed prime minister now literally has access to a cellphone with which he could play his part in the allocating of the cabinet portfolios, most of which are proportionately given to his own party. No cellphone is allowed for use by inmates at Bangkok Remand Prison or any other prisons.

 

The de facto Pheu Thai boss yesterday returned from 17 years of self-exile abroad, was almost immediately brought to the Supreme Court to formally hear of his earlier convicted eight-year jail term due to a few separate cases of misconduct and was then brought to Bangkok Remand Prison where he barely stayed for half a day at a nursing unit in the premises of the prison.

What the heck does this mean? I find TNR a highly dubious source. Their reporting is badly written and usually badly researched. Their use of "partisan sources" is bizarre. What do they mean? How do you "virtually put your hands" on "compromising... cabinet portfolios"?

By the way, remember when for the last 8 years or so Thaksin has been the evil one who must be prevented from returning for his original sin of Thai politics, how he was anti-Monarchist, how his regime was the most corrupt ever, how he destroyed "democracy" through accumulation of too much power...those same people just kissed the ring and handed it back to him because of the REAL threat, actual democracy. They're so afraid of that, they'll take Thaksin back over actually allowing the will of the people to prevail.

Democracy is a threat to them because it means they would lose their income streams, or at the very least there would be significant impact on them, i.e. stopping the alcohol duopoly etc.

 

It's all down to money as with everything else in Thailand.

I think his number one task will be to put the "Monarch Reforms" toothpaste back in the tube. That will be challenging, as he has no real power, and will require a harsh clamp-down on any perceived anti-Monarchy sentiments.
