The Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) has ordered a thorough check of the decorative skirting slabs on the Sukhumvit and Silom lines, after one of them detached and fell to the ground at Sathorn intersection on Wednesday evening.

Luckily, no one was hurt and no cars were damaged, said BTS, as it apologised for any inconvenience caused by the incident, adding that it immediately dispatched officials to the scene after being informed of the incident by Yannawa police.

The company said that the slabs are decorative additions to the main structure of the elevated train system and, therefore, the incident did not impact train services.

Why bother as the hi-so's rarely would shame themselves on taking the BTS ..?

It's not being ON the BTS that you have to worry about...

It's being UNDERNEATH the BTS that might be cause for concern! And hi-so's do get driven underneath. ????

Indeed... in this case it seems 'observer' is quite the oxymoron - far from observant with regards to paying attention to the article.

Further to that there are two sad, and one confused emoji's to your response which means others can't quite read either !!!! :giggle:

After the Yellow Line was activated and running above and over Lad Phrao, looking up  I started wondering about this, as that BTS/MRT line has no shields.  Main line of BTS running down Sukhumvit, for example does have them.  And as a pedestrian more concerned about watching for the broken everywhere sidewalks and falling down or in..                                                                                                                       Like the escalator catastrophe at Don Meung you never think about these things - they always seem to work, until one doesn't!    One of the reasons I refrain from smoking weed and going out and about Bangkok thinking everything irie mon !

If memory serves, this wasn't the first time this same kind of thing happened on the BTS system. I recall a similar incident not too far back.... The fact these things keep occurring is concerning.....

Indeed, I wouldn't be keen on staying full time in a Bangkok or Pattaya condo,  as  a major disaster is due to happen. This is the land of Shortcuts... And  it applies to any  field  of  human [thai] activity.
