Phichit is last minute addition to Srettha’s cabinet

Just a few hours after Prime Minister-elect Srettha Thavisin had confirmed that his cabinet list was complete and ready to be submitted to the Cabinet Secretariat for qualification examination, the name of Phichit Chuenban, the long-time legal counsel to the Shinawatra family, was added to the line-up as PM Office Minister.

 

Many believe that Phichit was given the post as part of the Shinawatra quota, because he is a lawyer who worked closely with Thaksin Shinawatra and later Thaksin’s sister, Yingluck.

 

He was jailed for six months in 2008 for bribery, when he worked as a chief counsel for Thaksin who was charged with abusing his authority to buy a Ratchadapisek land plot. The case prompted the Law Society of Thailand to disqualify Phichit as a licensed lawyer, suspending him for five years.

Well that makes two jail birds in the cabinet. Thamanat Prompow being the other. 4 yrs in an Aussie prison (sentence was 6 yrs.) for conspiring to import heroin into Australia. Obviously not as serious as having a miniscule amount of shares in a non-functioning media business.

Fully aware there are many politically motivated charges in Thai politics but it appears Thai hi-so's of all colours are top draw with regard to believing they are above the law

 

The corruption, the nepotism, the sheer arrogance is appalling, the fact they can have an international drug smuggler as a top tier politico is absolutely mind bending

 

This fellow is in good company and doubtless will learn some new tricks on raping the country and the populace....

Is there any other country, other than rogue states, who have convicted criminals in the government? Thailand truly is a third world banana republic.

Well the EUSSR has Christine Lagarde in charge of the ECB.

The ECB isn't a country and the EUSSR doesn't exist. She was convicted, although apparently even the prosecution thought the evidence was weak and were taken by surprise by the verdict.

Perhaps you can give a bit more relevant information.

I'm sure there are other examples of convicted criminals in government but I can't be bothered to look.

Surely this case is even worse. She was convicted in a Court of law for a payment of 400 million euros to a "friend" of Nicolas Sarkozy, She was given no punishment at all. Even Thailand is not that brazen.

Obviously you are  ignoring all the evidence that has been around for years, in Thailand you can kill a cop, have many witnesses and be found not guilty becase of who your father is, as long as you are a politician, have a rich or well connected family you can do as you please with no recriminations while poor people are jailed for picking mushrooms. You are either totally ignorant or a thai appologist because everyone else in Thailand can see the truth daily and realizes that graft and corruption rule the country.

Not really a subject for here but after a quick read of the story it's not entirely clear that she was at fault.
