Depression that black dog

Recommended Posts

I wanted to put this in this forum rather than the health forum as I'm not looking for a cure just opinions .

Lately I have felt depressed, about....nothing !

My energy has gone down and sleeping a lot

I have really stopped being concerned about my work /job ,not that I cared anyway but just having more sick days lately , couldn't be bothered going

I said recently to my brother I felt depressed but nothing about.

He said FFS , snap out of it !

How can you be depressed over nothing ?

"Depression is not real mate !!!

Get off the couch and go to work you lazy C !

Depressed over nothing , a load of BS !

But it's just not easy

I don't feel like going out and just prefer to spend my weekend at home watching movies .

I then seen a Abc Four corners documentary on the dangers of people that took Prozac and how initial this drug made them so happy but years later they were worse , some scholars said depression is not real ,it's promoted by medical pharmacy companies.

Now I'm not talking about depression with a reason that is your partner died or whatever,I'm talking about depression for no reason .

You just feel depressed

Even insurance companies don't have a illness called depression if you look close ,it has to have a meaning

In the last few days I have felt better why I don't know, but it got me thinking ," is depression actually real if you have nothing to be depressed about?

Is it a load of bunkum ?

How many of you have been affected by the "black dog" as they call it ,how many of you have really the terrible depression that you had to have medication, did it cure it

I remember a few years ago at my workplace a few guys making fun of another guy who claimed he had depression and took sick leave .

" What a weak B they said in the meal room , the lazy SOB ,they said , it's all BS !

The point is , is it BS, is it real ?

Since you brought it up as. black dog thing, I find this always lifts my spirits

-Oh wait, he's saying back off boogaloo, NOT black dog boogaloo, like I comically misremembered.

Still, the concept remains the same:

When feeling down, listening to the most stupid and worthless ear worms of my youth invariably knocks my mood up a letter grad,

The entire song catalog of Bread awaits you, Baby, they a-want you.

I nearly went tot he doc for something as I was depressed. My mate said try a few things first, one of which was run around the lake in Khon Kaen 3 times a week, which I did and the depression went.

Buy a dog, mind you it's depressing when they die, mine just did, after 12 years.

If it's clinical, see a doc, fk your brother and others who are ignorant.

You have to focus on your future plans, like moving to Thailand, if you haven't already.

Work depresses everyone, i.e. unless you love your job, I didn't, that's why I bailed 12 years early and have no regrets.

Sitting indoors is a mood killer, I like to get out at least twice, if not 3 times a week, have a couple of beers, shoot some stick, mix it up with positive people, and when I land one who is negative about this or that, I just avoid him like the plaque next time I see him, "don't bring me down", ELO.

The weather can depress people, missing a flight can depress people, just keep yourself busy and build a network of positive friends, socialise, and like save the frogs said; get some B12 into you, listen to YouTube music video's I love watching the Voice etc, cry a little, it's a good release, don't know why I do at my age but feel a lot better afterwards.

Stay away from doctors and pills, i.e. unless your feeling suicidal.

Time to play Powerball for Thursday, $40 millions up for grabs, now winning that would depress me ????

I'm sorry, but jaunty Back Door Boogaloo runs over that murky dirge like a tank.

Laugh at trivial things, like me easily besting some saddo in a Back Door/Back Off-debate.

It will help.

Endogenous depression (from within, not from external events) is very real. I get it every winter, I can be perfectly happy in myself, but don't function.

Anybody who says it isn't has never suffered from it. Next they will be saying blindness doesn't exist because they can see perfectly.

Been there, done it and done!

Lifestyle changes and other possible changes is a start, but talk to some professional could push the right buttons and ease your depression and get you going in right direction.

Chemistry is important as well with an therapist, so if it doesnt feel fight find a new one.

We all need stimuli and new challenges, find something challenging that keeps your mind engaged and stimulated.

Your life lacks action. No wonder you are depressed. Sitting around watching tv.

Get busy walking around doing stuff.

In America, insurers code 85% of mental health as generalized anxiety disorder, which is to say, unhappiness to the point where it is interfering with life. How unhappy, how interfering? Who knows?

But this broad assessment does ask a basic question: Are you unhappy or are you depressed (at least in clinical terms)?

Most people seeking payment for services will be both.

What's your best guess of what your unhappiness/depression pie graph look like right now?

If you don't mind waving goodbye to your boner, give antidepressants a shot. If you're not psych-level depressed, they won't work.

That won't prove to the nth degree that you're more unhappy than clinically depressed, but you'll know which side of the pie chart you need to work on more.

I don't think you have suffered from endogenous depression. What most people call "depression" I call "self pity" and can deal with it. My endogenous depression I can't.

Anybody who can be busy is not really depressed. It is not as simple as just 'getting busy' with endogenous depression. When I am not depressed I can't stop doing things, when I am depressed I can hardly do anything - literally starting around Nov 14th every year and persisting until April/May.

What supplements do you take?

Read what I posted and don't take advice from those guessing they know the answer to depression. Exercise, a great diet, good enough sleep and relieving your life from toxic people will help but it won't make it go away. Treatment with medications to help symptoms, trying to stay away from stressors, having someone that will be there to listen and not give advice and psychotherapy will help more.

People become what they think. Think depression will never go away it won't. Self fulfilling.

Mine generally goes away every April May without me doing anything. Again, you are inappropriately extrapolating how you deal with lifes ups and downs to major depression.

Thats the easy and logic answer, but a bit more complicated than that.

Depression can involve many triggers from chronic illness to triggers a person do not have control of, as well unstable changing  hormones, and many combinations.

But you can make a difference to mentor yourselves to think different when you are not depressed to prevent new depressions, but then you need to understand depression and know how it acts, and when the depression is in the first stage.

Self fulfilling. Smokers and fat people do the same. You talked yourself into it.
