An oil spill at a Single Buoy Mooring (SBM-2) of PTT subsidiary Thai Oil, at its refinery in Sriracha, Chonburi province, is now under control.

There is no more oil leaking from the area and the firm is evaluating the situation and surveying the surrounding areas to assess the possible impact of the spill.

Thai Oil said in a statement that the accident took place on September 3rd at 9pm, during a transfer of oil from tanker moored at the SBM-2.

Thai Oil earlier claimed that the oil spill was under control,

Suraswadi said the spilt oil, expected to wash ashore to the south of Kangkao Island and Udom bay on September 7 and Loy Island, off Sriracha district, on September 8.The oil is expected to reach Bangsan beach on September 10.

It's obviously not under control if they cannot prevent it from coming ashore on future dates.

They don'y have time to spray the oil with chemicals to sink it to the sea bed and hide it from view.

How many times has this happened?

And continue to happen.   Just collateral damage for a non-eco friendly energy source.  Profits are all that matter.

Cleaning up (hiding spills) seems to be cheaper than operating with proper equipment that prevents oops.  Petroleum product are needed, but profits are more important than ethics.  Sad indeed.
