In a bid to enhance naval cooperation, the Thai Navy and the The People's Liberation Army Navy of China have conducted joint training exercises, known as Blue Strike 2023, in the Gulf of Thailand. As part of this exercise, the Chinese navy deployed the CNS Chang Cheng submarine to participate.

The primary objectives were to familiarize the Thai naval forces with submarine inspections from the surface and underwater, as well as tracking submarine movements using sonar. This training aimed to boost confidence and provide valuable experience for Thai naval personnel with limited exposure to submarines over the past 86 years, reported Siam Rath.

The Chinese naval contingent, comprising four ships, arrived at the Sattahip Naval Base in Chonburi on August 31, 2023. Meanwhile, the Thai Navy contributed surface vessels and aircraft to the exercise. Rear Admiral Cholathit Nawanukroh, Chief of Naval Operations, led a team of Thai military leaders on-site during the training.

The training included various scenarios, such as jungle survival, armored vehicle operations, and maritime operations, emphasizing cooperation between both sides in different dimensions of naval operations.

It also involved submarine familiarization and tracking exercises, showcasing the commitment of both navies to strengthen their maritime capabilities.

Following comprehensive sea exercises, including replenishment at sea and submarine operations, the joint training concluded on September 8, 2023, marking a significant milestone in Thailand-China naval cooperation.

average depth is 58 meters.

Training the Thai Navy to detect submarines using sonar from surface ships. Hope there is subsea sonar training available somewhere for their submariner ambitions, can't see it happening for many years, boosting confidence doesn't cut it...........

I think you just blew any chance of Germany allowing China to install their engines into the Thai subs.

I guess you'll be getting a large delivery of something for the roses.

No need for a periscope then, just a snorkel and mask.
