Silent film chaos: Man attacks transwomen at mall theater for shushing

Featured Replies

A Thai man physically assaulted two transwomen at a theatre in a shopping mall in Chon Buri after the two asked him to stop talking while watching a movie.

The victims, 27 year old Cher and 26 year old Joy decided to share the story with ThaiRath as the attacker claimed that he was powerful and knew a lot of influential police officers. They added that they filed a complaint against the attacker at the Laem Chabang Police Station but were worried that officers would ignore their case.

According to Cher and Joy, they heard two men and a woman chattering from the seats behind them while they were in the theatre. Tolerating over half an hour, Cher and Joy asked them to lower their voices.

“Could you please lower your voice a little?”

The two claimed that the man rudely responded to them.

“What the f*** is wrong with you! Watch the movie in the theatre for the first time, huh? You are such a country bumpkin! If you want to watch a movie in a quiet place, go back home! We watch the movie like this here!”

Don't go to the cinema in China.

Sounds like the opening line of the movie.

Do you have a deep voice with loud drumming in the background?

Saw a Jackie Chan film in India. The crowd was all into it with constant cheers and cries of, "Hit him Jackie!"

Better entertainment than the film but once it's enough.

Except I read it as the falang saying it.

He needs to be arrested for assault and deported. This is not acceptable behavior.

Abnormal falang attacking two Thais in the theatre. The ladyboy part is irrelevant. Arrest and deport.

Different cultures have different norms in how they watch movies.

I'll never forget the first time I saw a movie in downtown Chicago.

No, I didn't object. That would have been crazy!

I agree... totally irrelevant that they were 'trans'...  would it read 'two heterosexual women'?  if they were hetero?  Of course not!

What a shame the two victims were not of the aggressive type often in the Pattaya news. They would have pummeled the dirt-bag!

It might depend if the violence was aggravated by transphobia or not.

How can you tell if someone is transphobia?  Sorry, but your comment is a bit off.. way off actually.

Not way off in the slightest.

If the perp said something transphobic during the incident or to the police then you would know whether that was a factor or not.

If nothing was said, then correct, you wouldn't know.

What does the fact that the 2 people were trans have any bearing on this story. It's repeated over and over and frankly shouldn't even have been mentioned!

It depends on what actually happened.

Suppose they were foreigners and there were signs that the hostility was related to that.

If they were foreigners, it would have been mentioned regardless.

I don't think it's bad reporting to mention they were trans. It brings up the possibility that the violence might have been related to that, which in actually is true, it might have been.

In this case, clearly not.

Deport the Thai man to Thailand?

That'll teach him!

I suspect it mentioned that they were trans women to make it seem more newsworthy.

A couple of blokes getting a smack on the chops isn't really newsworthy; society doesn't care about male-on-male violence, unless it's particularly serious.

More like perhaps not.
Also for the news with transgender women they had to say whether they were men or women.

Intolerant people might say call them men but they were presenting as trans so the respectful thing to do is to accurately describe that. They did that.

To where do you suggest this Thai man be deported please?

Trans women. If you don't know what that means, look it up. Many don't seem to get such basic things.
