PM asks Microsoft to invest in regional data centre in Thailand

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin invited Microsoft to invest in developing Thailand as a regional data centre during an informal discussion with Microsoft executives in New York on Thursday evening.

 

An informed source, close to the prime minister’s delegation, said that Microsoft executives claimed that Thailand has the potential of becoming a data centre in Southeast Asia and that the giant tech company will support the private and public sectors in the use of cloud technology.

 

According to the Microsoft executives, cloud technology will enhance the capabilities of technology professionals in Thailand, such as engineers and IT professionals, as well as the country’s competitiveness.

They should be asking Apple to develop...not Microsoft that is a open door to cyber crime. Cyber crime destroys economy and prosperity. Not to mention investors who loose confidence in the country.

This isn't a joke and has little to do with Windows/Office pirating.

 

AWS (Amazon) is soon to announce a go live of full region in Bangkok, it's been in development for a while, this is 3 AZs (physical data centers) that are separated enough to weather local issues (power, flooding etc..). AWS already have a local-zone here (1 AZ)

 

Azure (Microsoft) and also GoogleCloudPlatform have probably been in development just as long, but this is photo time, this will be well beyond meeting of understanding at this point.

 

This isn't secret in the industry..

Apple are not in the data center business (for anyone other than themselves), and long removed from the server business, they have no agenda to compete in this space - and they have made that openly clear.

He certainly seems to be trying to big up everything that he can , from Debt Management of the Thai Population, to attracting Microsoft to the land of Scams

Obviously you are not the brightest light in the shed if you need explaining.

 

How can a Windows version, downloaded from the official Microsoft website, but not licensed (activated), can become a pirated version.

 

Microsoft tolerates this even, because all they do is give you a nag screen "this copy of Windows is not activated" and no updates, but that doesn't turns it in a pirated Windows.

funny innit... puke thai usually screws foreigners living here and bringing in $$$ yet they are begging for help from foreign countries in the form of investments and techno. i am curious what fate awaits us in the very near future.

There are other large providers looking to set up physical infrastructure here too.  Many factors driving this, space and power constraints in Singapore, concern about being too heavily invested in China and others.  Will be interesting to see how far this goes.
