Popular Post webfact Posted September 28, 2023 Popular Post Posted September 28, 2023 Pattaya — The Pattaya mayor is highly hopeful about the completion of the long-stalled massive football stadium in the city after securing a new specialized contractor. He vowed to finish it within 820 days. During a visit to the “white elephant” stadium on Wednesday, September 27th, mayor Poramase Ngampiches said the city has found a new contractor to resume the stadium construction after the project has been stalled for years since it first started in 2008, due to a series of problems. The 20,000-seat football stadium covers an area of over 371 rais (146 acres) with a budget of 774 million baht. The stadium is located in Moo 4, Huay Yai sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Complaints were raised that the project, which has been under construction for as long as 15 years had not yet been completed and has been left abandoned. Of particular concern is that the equipment and internal facilities within the building have been damaged due to a lack of maintenance and security. Despite this, the project’s original goal was to serve as a sports hub for both local and international competitions. jacko45k Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 So nearly 3 more years? What a monumental coxx up that project has been......to go along with the Waterfront fiasco. I hope it can be sorted, after all, soi 15 got completed recently before high season, I wasn't expecting that. 1
HappyExpat57 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 REAL damned shame! I used to bicycle around there and could roam all around the facility. It looked top drawer, not just a scam. Good location, PLENTY of parking, it would have been a real draw. 1
redwood1 Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Why ever complete it?......This has been the gift that keeps on giving to contractor$...............I bet this new bunch is already slicing up the pie $$$$$$$... 2
mikebell Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Meanwhile 2nd Road drainage project is expected to last another FIVE years. 1
RichardColeman Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Looks an ideal site for a mega-boot sale to me - least they could use it as one until they finish it in 2095
redwood1 Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Headlines in 2123.......We are not joking aroud this time.....This stadium will be completed by 2130 come hell or high water.....Its only going to cost 10 billion baht more...And we will be keeping a eye on every baht of that money....
brianthainess Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 I wouldn't like to be in that with 20,000 fans jumping, stamping, drum banging etc. The concrete floors already look forked. 1
Emdog Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 "Of particular concern is that the equipment and internal facilities within the building have been damaged due to a lack of maintenance and security." Seems those concerns would be there regardless of stadium is completed or not..... 1
Peabody Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Vid looks like a walkthrough of some apocalyptic video game. Is the original contractor/family around in any form? Were there ever any repercussions to the non-completion? 1

newnative Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 What a total boondoggle. And, what has been built looks like it could have been done in a few months, not years and years. Did get a chuckle with the '820 days'. Do they think that sounds shorter???!!!
quake Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 This massive Cash Cow. will continue mooing for many years to come. don't you worry about that.
pegman Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Didn't the army have the build contract at one point? I remember a debate at the time about how ethical using conscript labour was.

Yes, army was there doing steel fabrication / rebar work for one or two years. not sure what the work was for, stadium or an other project. but there were camped out there by the side of the main building. 1
