Aside from vinegar another one that is supposed to lower blood glucose is cinnamon.  But it has to be Ceylon cinnamon.  A little searching on the web will explain why -- it is the one that smells/tastes like Dentyne chewing gum, the other smells like Cinnabon, that's how I tell them apart.  I'm not in LOS now, so can't say anything about availability or type there.  I use this one, a pound lasts about a year, a teaspoon in the morning cereal.

Something that hasn't come up yet in this thread is fiber.  Ya gotta have fiber.

OP: good job having an all fruit meal every day, but adding some protein (like nuts) makes it a proper meal. 

For me leafy greens works wonders, my fasting read drops even after scarfing down a bag of potato chips.

I have had a fatty liver for over twenty years and was diagnosed with type 2 over 15 years ago. 
 

I take metformin and now a cocktail of others prescribed by my specialist to rectify kidney and liver blood levels. Have some side effects so I have to return to see him.

 

Main danger is things like retinopathy which can blind you, and bad circulation which can lead to amputation. 
 

Make sure you get regularly tested for these and please see a doctor for metformin etc.

I have diabetes and the doctor prescribed oral medications.

If I don’t take the medicine, then I feel more or less tired after meals. With medication not so tired.
Personally, I wouldn’t necessarily take medication to change any values which the doctor uses for his diagnosis. But I take it to feel better.

I am diabetic, have been for about 20 years. The goal my Doc set was to be below 7.0, so 6.9 is OK.. 

Watch your diet, and do what exercises you can. You may not be able to walk far but you should be able to use a rowing machine, or even a skiing machine while seated. They will help improve cardio health..  If your sugar levels were up around 10 all the time then you could be in trouble.

It worked, I haven't had any issue with heavy heartbeat since. My suspicion is I had a problem with an overactive vagus nerve and the IF calmed it down.

As Dr Sheryl says 'Metformin is dirt cheap and has an excellent safety profile'. 

 

There is some evidence that Metformin is a 'wonder drug' that may have the potential to prolong life, not just for mild diabetics. It might be worthwhile researching a bit more to see if it might benefit you in the long term.

 

If your grandfather lived to be over 100, you might have good genetics. It would be good to do everything in your power now so as to improve your quality of life in the future. Taking Metformin, under a doctor's supervision, would be something that is cheap, easy and effective.

I have been diabetic since I was 16. I suggest taking some cinnamon in the morning and night. You can look up its benefits for type 2 and pre-diabetes with a quick search. It lowers my blood sugar greatly and is proven effective in many studies . It really does work for me.

Bananas are high although they do not taste too sweet and I would agree on strawberries - they pose no prob. I would be careful with blueberries - if I eat 0.5 kg of this stuff I need a hearty portion of insulin to get my bloodsugar level down again. I am a diabetic type 2. They seem to contain a large portion of sugar or some other element that elevates your sugar level. The problem is that I love blueberries and the Big C Extra here does import blueberries from Peru that are really exeptional which I cannot resist.

i thought type 1s and 1.5s needed insulin, not type 2s?

Type 1 means that the pancreas does not produce any insulin at all - therefore this type needs insulin in any case. Type 2 is different and the still existing production may be only badly affected. But if no oral medicaments help nor a change of lifestyle to encourage more insulin production, then Type 2 needs as well insulin.

Mostly the advice they give is of little use, but they swarm everywhere an almost any topic, and their advice is as useful as a bicycle is to a fish.

Several months ago I was concerned about diabetes and bought an Accu Chek blood sugar tester through Lazada for 1,130 baht. It came complete with the test strips and the 'prickers'.

 

I tested my blood sugar for a week to get an average and now I test every Monday morning.

 

I wrote a little excel spreadsheet to record the results.

 

The first 7 results were

The average results for the months were

There is no type 1.5

 

All type 1 diabetics need insulin by definition.

 

Some - -a minority -- of Type 2 diabetes do as well.

Living the last 5 or 10 without feet or eyes would kinda shrink your quality of life pal. All 'cos you didn't want to go to the doctor and ask someone whose job and career it is to treat people like you (and me) every day for decades.

 

Course you could always try Google, or Qanon. But that doesn't appeal to me. I prefer people who know what they're talking about and have years of experience and practice.

Right. As I've understood it there's plenty of the stuff around normally. It just can't transport the sugar into the cells, resulting in high blood sugar levels. Metformin reduces the cell resistance and the insulin can do its job.

My kneecaps are shot to crap and for exercises I have an epicycling machine which is very old but the newer ones can be bought online.

 

Basically it is a bike that goes nowhere but your knees and ankles don't get pounded into oblivion, and you can stop at any time.

OTOH I am 79 and have a few medical problems of my own and wish to help other sufferers.
