Crime Over 40 Arrested as Police Raid Gambling Dens in Bangkok

More than 40 people have been arrested in two separate police raids on illegal gambling operations in Bangkok’s Bang Bon district, following complaints from local residents. At around 22:00 on 30 July, officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) and Bang Khun Thian Police Station raided a townhouse in Soi Kamnan Maen 7, Khlong Bang Phran subdistrict. The operation followed reports of loud noise and suspicions that the property was being used as an illegal casino. Initially unable to enter through the front, police approached the property from the rear and found 28 individuals on the second floor actively playing kao kae (a Thai card game). Officers immediately identified themselves and placed all suspects under arrest. Among the 28 gamblers were 4 men and 24 women. Seized items included: • 18 card push sticks • 2 decks of playing cards • Cash totalling 19,940 baht • 2 plastic money baskets and 1 money container • 20 money clips All suspects were taken to Bang Khun Thian Police Station for legal processing. Ms Duangpee, aged 55, was charged with organising illegal gambling for financial gain. The remaining 27 individuals were charged with participating in unlawful gambling. In a separate operation at 01:00 on 31 July, Deputy Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Kittipat Kaewsang-ang and investigators from Bang Khun Thian Police raided a makeshift shelter at the Morakot Intersection, off Soi Ekachai 46, after receiving a tip-off about illegal hi-lo (dice) gambling. Fourteen people were caught in the act, 12 men and 2 women. Officers confiscated one dice set, three dice, a betting score sheet and cash. All suspects and evidence were taken to Bang Khun Thian Police Station, where they were charged with engaging in illegal gambling (hi-lo) for financial gain. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on underground gambling operations, which they say continue to disrupt communities and contribute to wider criminal networks. Authorities in Pluak Daeng District have arrested two drug dealers, seizing a large quantity of methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine (ice) worth millions of baht in a coordinated raid. District Chief Mr Sakon Karakot, together with Pol Col Navin Sinthurat, Superintendent of Pluak Daeng Police Station and Pol Lt Col Worawut Nitiyawan, Deputy Superintendent of Investigations, led the joint operation alongside local administrative officers, territorial defence volunteers, and investigative police. The suspects, identified only as “Yoh” and “Pae”, were well-known figures in the local narcotics scene. Their arrest follows a crackdown under the Ministry of Interior’s “No Drugs, No Dealers” policy and the ongoing initiative, aimed at rooting out drug users and dealers across the sub-districts of Map Yang Phon and Pluak Daeng. Acting on intelligence reports, the task force first raided a house in Map Yang Phon, arresting Yoh with 216 methamphetamine pills in his possession. A follow-up search led them to Pae’s nearby residence, where officers discovered an additional 3,655 pills and nearly 600 grams of crystal meth hidden inside the property and a car. Both men confessed to distributing the drugs among local youths and industrial workers. According to investigators, the street value of the seized drugs would amount to several million baht once distributed. Yoh and Pae reportedly started as low-level couriers before rising through the ranks to become high-level dealers. They had been on a police watchlist for some time before their arrest in this sting operation. The successful bust underscores the ongoing commitment of local authorities to dismantling drug networks in Rayong Province and ensuring safer communities. For example, Nation TV, which was once seen as supporting dictatorship, has become more balanced after a change in management. Those who used to cheer for the regime have moved elsewhere due to ideological differences. Have you ever watched Top News? They’re ultra-nationalist and support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, blaming the U.S. I think you’ve got it wrong. Modern Thai society is more open to news and information, especially among the younger generation.
