Online gambling network kingpin arrested in central Thailand
The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) apprehended a key figure in an online gambling network after he evaded capture for over a year. The arrest took place yesterday, with the suspect facing charges of promoting illegal gambling and money laundering. Police Lieutenant Colonel Yuthana Phaerndam, Deputy Director-General of the DSI, received a report from Witthawat Sukantharos, Director of the Surveillance and Intelligence Centre, and Operational Team 3. They successfully arrested Nattakit, the suspect, who was wanted under a warrant issued by the Criminal Court. Nattakit was charged with orchestrating and promoting illegal gambling activities. He allegedly used direct and indirect methods to lure individuals into participating in unauthorised gambling. Additionally, he is accused of money laundering. The arrest occurred at his residence in Nai Khlong Bang Pla Kot, Phra Samut Chedi district, Samut Prakan province. This particular case has been designated as Special Case No. 5/2023 by the Narcotics Litigation Division. Nattakit reportedly played a significant role in the illegal gambling network by managing advertisements that encouraged online gambling. He was also an administrator for a gambling website associated with a well-known seafood restaurant owner in central Bangkok. The network saw a monthly cash flow of over 500 million baht. The primary suspect in this case remains at large and is believed to be residing abroad. Investigators have recommended prosecuting multiple individuals involved in this case. The special investigation file has been handed over to the public prosecutor. Nattakit managed to evade arrest for over a year before his recent apprehension. Currently, officials have him in custody and have handed him over to the special case investigator of the Narcotics Litigation Division to proceed with legal actions, reported KhaoSod. “The case is part of our ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal gambling operations and related financial crimes. “We remain steadfast in our mission to uphold the law and protect the public from the harms of illegal gambling and related financial crimes.” By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Full story: The Thaiger 2024-08-08 - Cigna offers a variety of health insurance plans designed to meet the minimum requirement for medical treatment coverage, with benefits reaching up to THB 3 million. Nightclub owner denies attempted rape, claims victim wanted sex
A Thai nightclub owner denied attacking and attempting to rape a female singer who worked at his club, claiming the alleged victim took off her clothes because she wanted to have sex with him. The victim’s boyfriend, Chaloemsak Maleerod, took to social media to seek justice for his 36 year old girlfriend, Nui. He posted pictures of Nui with wounds and bruises on Facebook yesterday, August 7, to announce that nightclub owner Diao allegedly brutally attacked and tried to rape his girlfriend. Chaloemsak explained that he is a drummer and Nui is a singer at a nightclub on Hathairat Road in the Min Buri district of Bangkok, owned by Diao. On the day of the incident, Nui, who is close to Diao’s wife, went to the couple’s home in the Lam Luk Ka district of Pathum Thani to continue drinking with the woman after the club closed. Chaloemsak disclosed that Diao’s wife revealed issues between her and her husband to Nui multiple times, making Nui and the woman close. So, Nui trusted the woman and agreed to go to her home. According to Chaloemsak, Diao’s wife asked Nui to take a shower in her bedroom. While Nui was about to enter the bathroom, Diao approached her, took off her clothes, and attempted to rape her in front of his wife. Nui resisted and tried to escape, prompting Diao’s wife to physically assault her. Nui decided to flee despite being naked. The couple followed and gave her pyjamas. Nui called Chaloemsak, who came to pick her up and later shared the story on his Facebook. Nightclub owner’s defence Chaloemsak stated that Nui bore bruises and wounds across her body, especially on her face. All her belongings were still at the couple’s home. Chaloemsak said he and his girlfriend worked at the nightclub for about five months and the couple had never displayed any signs of violence. Chaloemsak also added that the couple threatened him not to report the matter to the police because Diao knew influential police officers in the area, so he sought justice from the online community. ThaiRath reported that Chaloemsak and Nui reported the issue to Lam Luk Ka Police Station yesterday, August 7. They were questioned for three hours, and Nui refused to give an interview with journalists. Chaloemsak spoke for his girlfriend, saying he revealed everything he knew in the Facebook post. His girlfriend had never drunk alcohol without him before. This was her first time. Diao went to the police station to defend himself last night. Diao said he had video evidence that he and his wife did not physically or sexually assault Nui. Diao alleged that Nui entered his bedroom with his wife, stating she wanted to take a shower. After removing her clothes, Nui sat on his lap and behaved as if she wanted to have sex with him. According to Diao, his wife did not intervene because they were reportedly swingers. Diao maintained that he did not physically assault Nui and claimed not to know who did. He suspected that her boyfriend, Chaloemsak, might have attacked her out of jealousy, as she had left his home wearing sexy pyjamas. Diao also explained that he recorded a video of Nui as a precaution against blackmail. He stated that recording such interactions was his standard practice, as many women sought to have sex with him and he wanted to guard against potential extortion. Diao announced his intention to sue Chaloemsak, Nui, and also the netizens who criticised him negatively on social media.
