Phuket – One person was pronounced dead at the scene while at least seven people have been injured after a sedan plunged into the vegetarian festival area in Phuket Town just days before the official launch of the festival.

The Phuket City Police was notified of the accident on Thursday (October 12th) afternoon on the Ranong Road in Talad Nuea. The road is a very narrow one-way road lined with vegetarian festival vendors behind the Kajorn Rangsan Temple (Nuea Temple) in Phuket Town.

The area is where the famous vegetarian festival of the Jui Tui Chinese Shrine is being held with dozens of vegetarian food stalls along the road. The road is still open to traffic but it will be closed for over a week on October 14th, one day before the vegetarian festival starts officially.

However, many food stalls have already been set up with vegetarian food and were already in business as some residents have already started their vegetarian fast. Some social media users criticized relevant officials for keeping the road open despite limited space to move and many pedestrians and stalls.

...not that it would change anything in the land of smiles, but we can assume that there were no speed limit signs in the midst of a bustling festival

I guess being a vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean you'll live a long life.

Of course, not it is just a choice of life

For one week out of the year for most.

Yes, the road should be closed but it is a main road and diversion not so easy, but it is possible with a little forward planning .... mmm.  I use that road often and each year of veg week I avoid that stretch of road. Use the residential parallel road.

The stalls wont be selling anything to them.

A former SOE agent in WW2. Pippa Latour, has recently died aged 102. She was once asked to what she attributed her old age. She replied saying she had never eaten a green vegetable in her life. ????

Sadly, no. But a healthy lifestyle, no alcohol, no sugar, no smoking, and avoiding the sun is the recipe (it sure helps if you're a vegetarian)!

No, the recipe is the genes you were born with. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are prime examples. They should have been dead decades ago with their lifestyles (drugs, smoking, drinking, partying, eating whatever they want) yet even today at 80 years of age they look great.
