The UK will send two Royal Navy ships and surveillance aircraft to the eastern Mediterranean in plans to "bolster security", No 10 says.

The aircraft will begin patrols on Friday to "track threats to regional stability such as the transfer of weapons to terrorist groups".

Three Merlin helicopters and a detachment of Royal Marines are also being dispatched.

Rishi Sunak spoke to Israel's PM on Thursday to reaffirm the UK's support.

His call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was meant to "reaffirm the UK's steadfast support for Israel following Hamas' appalling terrorist attack", Downing Street said.

"The additional military assistance would be deployed in the coming days to bolster security in the wider region and mitigate any attempts to escalate the conflict," it added.

"He [Mr Sunak] reiterated that the UK stands side by side with Israel in fighting terror and agreed that Hamas can never again be able to perpetrate atrocities against the Israeli people.

"Noting that Hamas has enmeshed itself in the civilian population in Gaza, the Prime Minister said it was important to take all possible measures to protect ordinary Palestinians and facilitate humanitarian aid."

The two prime ministers "agreed to remain in close contact and to explore any further support the UK can provide".

Pathetic. Britain once again shows it's poodle status to the US.

So, when the Muslim population of the UK protests in support of Gaza, will they arrest them all?

IMO the British government will regret doing so, as they will be tarred with the same brush as the israelis.

Think the UK will do the same as the French have done in regard to protests, at least the UK trying to suport Israel

The proletariat will be fed to the guns. The plutocrats will rake in the billions and billions of blood soaked dollars once again.

Agree. Wars are often about making money out of other people's misery.

Does the British government think israel can't win against a few lightly armed fighters so it has to offer support? Doesn't israel have a massive military that has been successful in a few wars?

One has to wonder what the <deleted> is going on, that the same countries that jump in to support Ukraine against Russia have abandoned 2 million people to death and destruction in a similar situation.

UK citizens were murdered, UK citizens were abducted and taken hostage, and the are also UK citizens living, working or whatever in the Gaza Strip. But you already knew that. It is doubtful that the UK will actually get much involved in the actual fighting, though.

"2 million people to death"

More of your constant hyperbole and hysteria.

Well the smart money says this one is because Iran is trying to derail the Saudis governments recognizing Israel’s right to exist and normalizing relations via their terror group hammas that being said yes it creates misery for all concerned and heartache for those who care and have the good fortune not to be directly affected it effi# sucks!

You poor frustrated child, unable to see the big picture.

Soooo what is the big picture? Has netanyahu been having a conversation with you?

The only big picture I see is dead Palestinian children. Perhaps that is what you want?

Sad.

Meanwhile the protests against israel increase around the world.

Someone in israel is a nutter, as apparently threatening to destroy Lebanon if they attack israel. They are not defenceless against the israelis, and if the israelis tried they'd have Iran involved.

And herein lie your issues.

Is your memory so impaired that you already forgot what just led to Israel bombing the Gaza Strip? Or did them Israeli children had it coming?

Someone in Israel is a nutter. Sure. Let's put it aside that you don't bother to say whom, but expected. Hamas attacking Israel knowing the consequences all too well - apparently perfectly rational and acceptable as far as you are concerned.

Lebanon is defenseless, and broke. Hezbollah is not. Learn the difference. Lebanon has little wish to get dragged into this by Hezbollah. But again, your 'logic' seems to offer that it's alright for Hezbollah and Iran to threat Israel, but not vice versa.
