The UK will send two Royal Navy ships and surveillance aircraft to the eastern Mediterranean in plans to "bolster security", No 10 says.

The aircraft will begin patrols on Friday to "track threats to regional stability such as the transfer of weapons to terrorist groups".

Three Merlin helicopters and a detachment of Royal Marines are also being dispatched.

Rishi Sunak spoke to Israel's PM on Thursday to reaffirm the UK's support.

His call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was meant to "reaffirm the UK's steadfast support for Israel following Hamas' appalling terrorist attack", Downing Street said.

"The additional military assistance would be deployed in the coming days to bolster security in the wider region and mitigate any attempts to escalate the conflict," it added.

 

"He [Mr Sunak] reiterated that the UK stands side by side with Israel in fighting terror and agreed that Hamas can never again be able to perpetrate atrocities against the Israeli people.

"Noting that Hamas has enmeshed itself in the civilian population in Gaza, the Prime Minister said it was important to take all possible measures to protect ordinary Palestinians and facilitate humanitarian aid."

The two prime ministers "agreed to remain in close contact and to explore any further support the UK can provide".

Most Western governments support Israel. Many others do to.

Maybe if you lived there you would have a slightly different opinion, my sadness is for the victims including the innocent Palestinians who are going to get the <deleted> bombed out of them! Hamas is a terror organisation only supported by rogue nations! Maybe you should change your residential status!

Think the UK will do the same as the French have done in regard to protests, at least the UK trying to suport Israel

Al Jazeera reported that some Gazans were killed by bombing as they attempted to use the "safe route" to move to the south as ordered by israel.

Does the British government think israel can't win against a few lightly armed fighters so it has to offer support? Doesn't israel have a massive military that has been successful in a few wars?

 

One has to wonder what the <deleted> is going on, that the same countries that jump in to support Ukraine against Russia have abandoned 2 million people to death and destruction in a similar situation.

Why does Hamas have its headquarters in another country? Why is it not 

considered a terrorist group by that country?

UK citizens were murdered, UK citizens were abducted and taken hostage, and the are also UK citizens living, working or whatever in the Gaza Strip. But you already knew that. It is doubtful that the UK will actually get much involved in the actual fighting, though.

Lebanon is defenseless, and broke. Hezbollah is not. Learn the difference. Lebanon has little wish to get dragged into this by Hezbollah. But again, your 'logic' seems to offer that it's alright for Hezbollah and Iran to threat Israel, but not vice versa.
