Banking app phone number

Hi is there any UK bank or building society that will allow you to use a Thai phone number for a banking app to send pass codes

Santander allows a thai number but one day they may change their mind and just close your account as you're abroad, like other banks

Probably not, for a new account.  The banks' attitudes will be to ask why a UK resident would need to use a Thai phone number.

Not a bank, but Revolut will allow a Thai phone number as long as your address is in the UK.

I have my Monzo banking app set up on a Thai phone, address is in the UK.

There may be a better way.

GiffGaff will happily send you a SIM with a UK phone number.

Your bank can then use this number to send you OTPs, which you can access in Thailand, using your mobile phone.

It helps if you have a dual SIM phone.

GiffGaff is quick and easy to set up.  Put 10GBP credit on the SIM and send an SMS or make a call every so often to keep the number active.

Yes this is the smart thing to do, i do this, would be naive to give your bank a thai number

Same as in Thailand where Thai banks not only refuse foreign numbers to secure accounts via the OTP sms,  but also make it a pain in the Axx for foreigners to open a bank account.

 

Not surprising that foreign money will start to go to other countries.

TSB.  My account has options for home, work and mobile numbers.  I have work as my Thai mobile number and can select any of the three to receive pass codes.
