Legalising casinos to boost economy: Thailand House of Representatives forms committee

Bangkok, the new "Vegas" of SE Asia. I never cared for Las Vegas much. I lived there for a short time. The place had a bad vibe. Seemed like half of the residents there are always on the hustle. Lots of scams and way less than ethical stuff going on. Trying to buy a used car there was a joke. Talk about scams.

It's sad. Casinos, weed, prostitution, a race to the bottom.

Yes it would only work if they restricted access to  non residents. Otherwise Thais would lose their incomes which would profit only to Swiss bank  accounts. Hence depressing the Thai economy even further.

Funny, it seems that in Thailand no one has ever heard of the "seven whys". Maybe they spell it differently.:wai:

When you cannot compete with Silicon Valley, are starting to lose out to Vietnam that will offer better incentives for FDI, when exports are faltering, and when drought threatens to impact the ag sector....embrace VICE with both hands.

(Just don't hire trump as a casino consultant...the guy was so bad he bankrupted several of them). Maybe hire Pansy Ho?

Sure legal casinos for the tourists and rich. Bring on the chinese charter flights.

Illegal online and speakeasy gambling dens for the people. Management by or backhanders for the RTP. Yep.

Pick your own lotto numbers terminals without searching racks of 18th  century style tables; Nope

Some on here are expressing concern. Don't worry. A proposal to have casinos in Thailand comes around every now and then - including only a few months ago when 'they would be situated in Chonburi'. Then those involved in the proposal are taken aside and reminded who owns the illegal ones, untouchables who lurk in the shadows and who have no intention whatsoever of allowing others to dilute their massive earnings. As happened with the recent proposal. And it all gets forgotten until the next time.

Exactly,

but in the meantime, sixty snouts are happily wallowing in the trough...

More like legalizing casinos to bring in more Chinese 'tourists'.

That was my first thought also. It should be interesting to watch the opposition. Plenty of discourse on the subject from the USA which regularly goes round and round in states and localities. New ... "What happens in Chiang Mai, stays in Chiang Mai".

A 60-member committee

Quite a number of envelope receiving candidates; if you go into details you might see one or the other member having - purely coincidental of course - some interesting links to parties, party members and leadership?

Just legalize casinos and get on with it; see how the West gets around all this and makes mega bucks in taxes and ancillary services like the hospitality trade. Nobody would visit i.e. Poipet for its offerings on the flower market 😉

It had to happen one day......it almost happened before the coup took place.

There is a downside to Casinos that people like to play down understandably. Racketeering, drugs, prostitution.........and that's just the RTP!!! lol.

It will bring a huge boost to the economy though. Hotels, bars, restaurants, the girls........it will be interesting to see who is given the Licences.

Their Chinese masters have spoken and so it shall be done.

Once the locals are destitute and homeless, the country will be ripe for a Cambodian (or Myanmar) style gov't to take over permanent control of the country. A gov't that the Chinese will control as they work to exert their influence on every country in the region they don't already control by proxy.
