webfact
A wave of sexual harassment allegations against members of the Move Forward Party (MFP) has sparked a demand for a definitive code of ethics to govern the sexual conduct of politicians. The demand emerged during a seminar organised by the Women and Men Progressive Movement Foundation on Wednesday, following the expulsion of an MFP member on the grounds of sexual harassment allegations. Jadet Chaowilai, the director, emphasised that sexual harassment is not confined to any specific social or professional environment. The patriarchal mindset deeply ingrained in Thai society is a significant factor intensifying the issue. “Purging the offender from the party won’t stop the problem.” Jadet added that calling for a more effective reporting system for victims and stronger enforcement of existing sexual abuse laws. The provision of immediate redress for victims and those impacted by the harassment is equally crucial. by Mitch Connor Photo: cnbctv18.com Full story: The Thaiger 2023-11-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. nobodysfriend
https://www.un.org/womenwatch/osagi/pdf/whatissh.pdf The EEOC has defined sexual harassment in its guidelines as: Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when: • Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual's employment, or • Submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as a basis for employment decisions affecting such individual, or • Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. Unwelcome Behavior is the critical word. Unwelcome does not mean "involuntary." A victim may consent or agree to certain conduct and actively participate in it even though it is offensive and objectionable. Therefore, sexual conduct is unwelcome whenever the person subjected to it considers it unwelcome. Whether the person in fact welcomed a request for a date, sex-oriented comment, or joke depends on all the circumstances. Sexual harassment claims are easy to make and sometimes used to discredit the accused person . It should be proven by evidence or witnesses , otherwise it can destroy a political career or ,even the life of the accused person .

"A wave of allegations" following the expulsion of "an MFP member"? The words "bandwagon" and "witch-hunt" spring to my mind here! 4

Sydebolle
So the 11-party coalition is rattling the cage again. The claims are towards individual Thai citizen - it has absolutely nothing to do with any political orientation. Name the culprits, process them through the Thai legal system and hand down the appropriate verdict or dismiss the cases. But do not mix any misbehavior of any person with his job ...... and being a member of a party is a job!
paul1804
It would be interesting to know the real facts here, MFP just happened to be the the party with the most votes so if their members can be discredited that would be convenient for the current governing party for the next election??

Indeed. And the ruling party can now try to get the MF party banned, thus eliminating the main opposition. Its worked in many other countries...
