Macron calls on Israel to stop killing Gaza's women and babies

Israel must stop killing babies and women in Gaza, French President Emmanuel Macron has told the BBC.

In an exclusive interview at the Élysée Palace, he said there was "no justification" for the bombing, saying a ceasefire would benefit Israel.

While recognising Israel's right to protect itself, "we do urge them to stop this bombing" in Gaza, he said.

But he also stressed that France "clearly condemns" the "terrorist" actions of Hamas.

France - like Israel, the US, the UK, and other Western nations - considers Hamas a terrorist organisation.

When asked if he wanted other leaders - including in the US and the UK - to join his calls for a ceasefire, he replied: "I hope they will."

Israel says it attacks military targets in line with international law and takes steps to reduce civilian casualties, like issuing warnings ahead of strikes and calling on people to evacuate.

Speaking the day after a humanitarian aid conference in Paris about the war in Gaza, Mr Macron said the "clear conclusion" of all governments and agencies present at that summit was "that there is no other solution than first a humanitarian pause, going to a ceasefire, which will allow [us] to protect... all civilians having nothing to do with terrorists".

"De facto - today, civilians are bombed - de facto. These babies, these ladies, these old people are bombed and killed. So there is no reason for that and no legitimacy. So we do urge Israel to stop."

He said it was not his role to judge whether international law had been broken.

Hmmmmm, he must have seen the writing on the wall and is walking back his grovelling visit to suck up to netanyahu when it first started.

I was watching ( live ) the meeting of Arab and Muslim leaders in Saudi on Al Jazeera, and the condemnation of israel was universal among the leaders that spoke while I was watching. Even Abbas seems to have grown a pair and is making some very critical comments about israel.

All demanded an immediate end to the bombing, and a ceasefire with the border opening permanently for aid.

Those that addressed the future, demanded a Palestinian state based on the 1967 border ( and obviously evacuation of illegal israeli settlements ).

Now, all they have to do is take action to make it happen.

It'll be ironic if netanyahu's "solution" to Gaza ends up with israelis gone from the west bank and a free Palestinian state. I'm sure that's not what he wanted.

Meanwhile, as seen on Al Jazeera, an israeli minister seemed to be threatening to bomb Beirut if Hezbollah carries on attacking israeli positions ( his statement was being translated ). That's going to "upset" Biden, or one hopes it does.

"Hezbollah is dragging Lebanon to a possible war, and is making mistakes," Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said at a situational assessment near the Lebanese border Saturday, adding that the Lebanese citizens would be the first to pay the price for this kind of mistake. "What we can do in Gaza, we can also do in Beirut."

I think @thaibeachlovers's posts more and more resemble what he'd like to happen rather than what is happening.

To anyone slightly familiar with recent history, the meeting was as per script. A whole lot of condemnations, declarations, statements - but bottom line, very little of substance, no action and not even much unity. Abbas 'grown a pair'? How? It's pretty much a stock speech he gave, nothing new.

Like it or not, the Arab/Muslim world's choice is not to unite against Israel, certainly not on behalf of the Palestinians. That the poster is eager for them Arab/Muslim countries 'to take action' is more like a fantasy, some wishful thinking. They can't act in a united manner over pretty much anything - that's not news either.

An Israeli minister threats Lebanon, Hezbollah and Iranian leaders threat Israel - guess which one makes it to @thaibeachlovers's post?

I don't take Macron seriously, he flip-flops with wind.

What, exactly, would you have him do, @thaibeachlovers?

Unfortunately women and babies, like many others, are casualties of war, and if one starts a war, then they should be prepared for the consequences.

What the Palestinians don't seem to understand is that they are being used by Hamas so that they can fulfil their own ambitions of destroying Israel and killing all Jews.

Back onto Macron.......Ask him if France can give the Israelis some sophisticated military intelligence and weaponry which can identify women and babies, so that they won't be bombed??????

No have........Thought that was the case, so Macron is talking out of his rear end.

Despite your casual disregard for the over FIVE THOUSAND children killed by the israelis, not counting those that are still buried in the rubble of their homes, and the many more thousands of wounded children, more of the world is supporting Macron's appeal than is supporting israel's murderous campaign of bombing residential buildings, hospitals and UN shelters all over Gaza.

While israel will win the conflict, given their superior forces, and the IMO craven backing of the US, both israel and the US will be losers in the court of public opinion, and IMO it will come back to bite them later. Apparently Biden is losing support of the voters rapidly, and israelis will be fearful every time they leave israel. Seems they are already fearful even in israel, given they have to be armed to the teeth and have a vast army dedicated to controlling an oppressed and demoralized population armed with a few rifles in the West Bank.

I don't include Gaza in that, as it seems that nothing will be left to live in there, assuming the Americans don't run out of bombs to send to israel before it's all blown up.

Fancy having to be told to stop killing women and babies.

Here endeth the debate on moral equivalency between Hamas and the IDF.

Equivalency confirmed!

Not at all , Hamas deliberately targeted Children and Woman , raped and murdered them

Israel didn't deliberately target woman and Children , actually, Israel asked the Palestinian woman and Children to move to safer areas , so they wouldn't get caught in the crossfire .

Nice that Hamas released that two year old  girl who they have been holding hostage for the last three weeks today

Wouldn't need to be told if Hamas didn't use woman and children as human shields ,.

That is how Hamas operate , they hide among civilians and using them as human shields and when they get killed, they complain about woman and children getting killed......................when Hamas are the ones putting them in the firing line

Your people went into  persons house , kidnapped a two year old girl and kept her hostage and demanded criminals be released from jail in order to free her .

Did I miss the article where Macron told HAMAS to stop killing women and babies in Israel?

Where Macron told HAMAS to stop invading Israel?

Where Macron told HAMAS to stop breaking existing long term cease fires by continually killing innocent civilians with rocket attacks in Israel. (More than 1,000 rockets a years fired at random targets.)

Get real people. HAMAS are the problem and they were elected into power by the people of Gaza. The same people that they use as a human defence barrier to try and save their murderous lives.

BTW they tell lies as well. Do not believe everything that HAMAS spout.

Have Hamas done any of those things (other than firing ineffectual rockets) since October 7th?

The problem is that Israel refuses a fair two state solution.

Should we believe everything Israel spouts?

I doubt you'd say rockets are ineffectual if they were launched at your home. That Israel took measures (Iron Dome, shelters, warning system) to make it less of a threat is something that you seem to ignore.

As for Hamas not doing more of the same - not because they do not want to, but because of current IDF action. Hamas leaders already quoted they would do it over and over again.

Two-state solutions aren't a Hamas hallmark. The PA was also lukewarm on past instances when Israel's leaders were for it. That you try to spin things in a certain way does not change facts.

As for believing stuff - you seem to believe all the nonsense you spew.

The Israeli death toll hasn’t moved much since October 7th…, how to justify the murder of 6000+ children when there exists zero imminent threat???

Israel’s offers have always been unacceptable to any reasonable Palestinian - put the 67 borders back on the table and war is over.

Your ignorance is astounding of what Hamas is and continues to do. Is it your ignorance or is it you supporting the terrorists holding hostage to over 200 women, children and men, including a 10 month old baby still in their possession? Or perhaps its you forgetting that they kill their own Palestinian people most days of the week with their rockets so many of which land back in Gaza killing people, forgotten the hospital car park already?

Or perhaps you've forgotten the fact that Hamas own leaders have stated clearly that the sacrifice of Palestinian people has to be done to achieve goals? They do this via using them as human shields, they especially love when their own terrorists are killed then get the Hamas health Authorities to put them in the figures as children.

Here's some education for the Palestinian children courtesy of Hamas

No apologist. Return the innocent hostages, all of them, remove the threat of Hamas, then war is over.

Hamas stopped because they achieved their objective.

The real question is did Israel’s right wing government allow the attack to happen???

7 minutes ago, Nick Carter icp said:

Hamas have never been and never will be an existential threat to Israel.

The only reason Hamas pose any threat to Israeli security is because Netanyahu enabled their growth via his financial and political support in order to “thwart a two state solution”.

There is no requirement for parity in casualties other than in your mind.

Israeli hostages still held by Hamas, rockets still launched at Israel.

The death toll would have been different if Hamas was allowed to act unchecked, which seems to be what you suggest.

There were two Israeli Prime Ministers who made such offers to the PA, both offers were not accepted by the PA.

Hamas is not in favor of a two-state solution the way you paint it.

Basically, what you're after is rewarding Hamas for 7/10.
