Gold, the undisputed "safe harbor". Or is it?
.. and they can pawn it when necessary. Many years ago when my missus told me gold had gone over 10,000 Baht I told her not to bother because I said it will soon fall back. I no longer give financial advice. -

BREAKING NEWS Two Israeli embassy staff killed outside Washington DC Jewish museum
Live Updates: Slaying at Jewish Museum Was Targeted Antisemitic Violence, F.B.I. Says The killing of two Israeli Embassy aides was condemned by U.S. officials. The suspect, from Chicago, had a history of pro-Palestinian activism, including a social media statement scheduled to post after the shooting. A post on social media Wednesday night from an account that The New York Times verified belonged to the suspect condemned the Israeli and American governments, and what he called atrocities committed by the Israeli military against Palestinians. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/05/22/us/israel-embassy-shooting-dc Wow, that sounds like some of the pro-Palestine posts on AN. Are you proud to be in such good company, gentlemen? Further down on the NYT update page there's a short notice: The suspect in the Israeli Embassy murders had protested for Palestinian rights. Under the title “Escalate For Gaza, Bring The War Home,” the suspect, Elias Rodriguez, condemned what he called atrocities committed by the Israeli military against Palestinians. The post did not refer directly to the shooting on Wednesday evening, but it justified “armed action.” https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/05/22/us/israel-embassy-shooting-dc -

People keep posting, Thailand expensive, but I'm not seeing it!
It's all difficult to compare, since so much depends on where you live, and how you want to live. We used to own several condo's in Noble Remix in Bangkok. 50m2 and we used to get ฿30,000/month for them, shoebox's really but nice and in a great location. We now own condo's back in the US, 1000ft2, or 92m2 and we rent them for $1000/month, so the same, still rather nice in a great part of town. Food is always tricky and it depends how 'local' you want to go. I was never into buying meat at one of those outdoor stalls with the swirling fan trying to keep the flies away, I'd always pay more in Top's for meat that at least looked more hygienic. For sure our grocery bill is higher in the US than when we are in Thailand, but last time the gap is narrowing, but again, ain't prepared to go full native Utilities not much in it, and at least the power stays on all time time here! You said you are on Medicare, so you're at least paying Part B. If you get an Advantage plan they do cover you for overseas travel, which might be worth looking into, then you're not committing yourself to be reliant on the local Government hospitals, which outside BKK vary wildly to say the least -

Trump ambushes South African president at White House meeting
After all these years of so many lies, mistruths, misinformation, exaggeration- in other words steaming horse manure, how can the Trump fanboys still believe a word he says? Beyond belief.
