Report Royal Thai Navy to Launch New Hydrographic Vessel
File photo for reference only The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) is set to launch a new hydrographic operations vessel, marking the replacement of the soon-to-be-decommissioned HTMS Suriya. Scheduled for a ceremonial debut on May 19, the new vessel represents a strategic upgrade in the RTN's maritime capabilities. The launch ceremony will be presided over by Admiral Jirapon Wongwit, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy. Rear Admiral Jerawat Krisanaphan Wongwit, President of the Navy Wives Association, will conduct the traditional ship-launching ritual. This significant event will take place at the Asian Marine Services Public Company Limited shipyard in Laem Fa Pha, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province. The Hydrographic Vessel Procurement Project underscores the RTN's commitment to maintaining its essential maritime operations. The newly acquired vessel will enhance the Navy's ability to inspect and repair maritime navigational aids within Thai territorial waters. Additionally, it will support disaster relief operations and logistical supply missions to coastal and naval units. Seatech Solutions International (S) Pte Ltd, based in Singapore, designed the vessel. It boasts a length of 60 meters, a beam of 13.3 meters, and a draft of 3.05 meters. Capable of reaching speeds up to 13.1 knots, the ship offers an operational range of 2,400 nautical miles and accommodates a crew of 67 personnel. This new vessel represents a significant leap in the Royal Thai Navy's mission to secure and efficiently manage Thailand's maritime interests, ensuring continued excellence in navigational aid maintenance and maritime security operations.
