Ranong I think is open, you can check with a local tour company who arrange the crossing

I always did this one from Koh Samui.

You dont need anyone to arrange it for you. Just drive up, park, pay the fare and board the boat. It is that easy.

Last time i went to Ranong in oct there were new laminated signs telling foreigners to have all there paper work or else. Kicker was obviously to pay a guy to avoid all that.

I didn't have all the flight/bank work etc wjhether or not it wld have come to that so paid 2k

People say u can breeze up, slip out and in which is what attracts u, but for all its serenity everyone i spoke to was with a tour and I can't see how u cld do so casually solo if you are not giving the imm off his cut, u will stand out.

Smooth though :D
