Many are young, educated and escaped the war. I'd do same.

Then there are those "old timers" with lot of cash and still think Russia is #1 and they still have lot of power.

Like the fat guy yesterday at 7/11 who tried to buy 10 SIM cards but the clerk said "only one per passport".

He went ballistic! Yelling, in Russian, and showing off thick stack of THB cash.

I was next in line and young clerk asked me to come to pay. I pushed him aside and she completely ignored the fat dude, took stack of SIM cards away from him and probably didn't sell any to him. I left so don't know.

He was an a-hole for sure.

sounds like a real quality tourist right there!!

sheesh.

Prime candidates for new taxation scheme. Doubt Russia has tax treaty.

It is an interesting question.

I've known a Russian guy informally for ten years. No skills, no apparent job, Thai wife and kid. No clue.

Just need to visit RD website and voila there it is a tax treaty between Russia and Thailand.

Guess the rest of your comment is just insinuation.

Yes it is I guess - insinuation

In ten years neither he nor his wife have ever discussed it. Odd as we are often what we do.

Don't know what they are all doing, but last week on Tuesday one of them stabbed a few people at Nana Plaza and then another out on Soi 4 near Hooters. Apparently he was miffed that a woman he tried to barfine in Nana refused him.

He remains in custody in Bangkok.

Might be a different picture next year after the Russian March 2024 elections and a massive Putin win (of course)

it's widely touted he will call a general mobilization, many living here will get called up in their absence, will have to go back to join up, or never go back. At least while Putin is in power

Haha yahoo news posts almost 100% anti russian news. It seems to be the mouthpiece of that news source the ''New Voice of Ukraine''

Why do you want to know?

I would venture its none of your business.

Why not? Bob is probably looking to upgrade his breakfast from Chang to craft beer, any new ways to make money are probably of interest.

I see many russian families in my project these days,

they seem to be here for months on end

kinda got me thinking.

what are the vast majority of them doing here?

how are they supporting themselves and their families without working?

how long are they going to stay here?

they make lots of noise, especially late at night,

their kids are the worst, shouting and screaming till all hours.

they leave trash everywhere,

i've witnessed their kids spitting on the floor numerous times.

will they ever go home?

why dont they just go back to russia, put on their army uniforms and face the music.

they started the war after all,

best go back home now and fight it imo.

The Thais have much better deal than most of the countries in Europe,  they don't pay anything, only collect. Compare this to Europe where millions of so called refugees from that shole Ukraine are collecting benefits for almost 2 years. No wonder the far right is rising fast everywhere there.
