Imo a very good movie that focused more on Brian Epstein than the Beatles, although they (the actors) made the movie as well.

It was my era (born in 1947) and the songs in it really did bring back memories although at the time I/we had no idea of Brian Epstein's darker side....a sad ending for a talented and driven man.

Yeah it was excellent.

Coincidentally I watched Backbeat just before that.

Backbeat was about Hamburg before Eppy.

Can't locate a 1080p torrent that's less than 5Gb.

Anyone have link, please?

😶‍🌫️🙂

Lots of 720p's around. Frankly I don't see much if any difference between 480p, 720p and 1080p. I generally watch 480p(dvd quality) video.

The big jump in video quality was from CRT to flat screen. Anything since has been of little consequence, IMO.

I'll take quality content on CRT or 480p over most of today's junk on the latest hardware. Just because you can see every strand of each actor's nose or pubic hair doesn't improve the enjoyability of what you're watching.

1080 usually carries sub titles and is good for folks that are hearing impaired 🙂

I delete any subtitles embedded/accompanying videos I download. I then get the one I like (no SDH) with a4ksubtitles, addic7ed, or opensubtitles addons in kodi. But then, I'm not hearing impaired (yet) and only need the subtitles for words I miss or accents that are unfamiliar to me.

FWIW, I thought this was slow, boring and the actors wooden. YMMV.

This one has really good reviews.

Out later this week.

How can it have reviews if it's not out yet? From the trailer?

That said, I saw the trailer a while back and added it on my download list.

The movie it's based on with the same name is also good if you haven't seen it.

I haven't watched --& probably wont, I was criticized on here a while back when I said that I think the  Kiwi's IMO produce very little quality TV programs--while similar (population) countries like Ireland--Norway etc turn out really good stuff  .

You obviously don't realise that TV and movie critics get sent episodes before their release date.

As part of the continuing series of old ladies doing action movies, we now have Kate Beckinsale, 52, playing a covert CIA agent in Canary Black.  Beckinsale starred in the Underground series of movies a couple of decades ago, where she played a vampire hunter. Decked on in spandex, she was a feast for the eyes at that time.

She still looks good and I have to commend her plastic surgeon but the movie is ridiculous. She goes around wearing platform shoes with 5 inch heels, which doesn't impede her at all (or her stunt double anyway) from engaging in martial arts mayhem, including defeating trained agents twice her size and somehow striking them with a closed fist in the face without breaking her hand.

The plot, such as it is, sees her husband kidnapped so she can blackmailed to turn over a file that contains blackmail material on all the agents in the CIA.

Ladies, please, it's time to put these movies to rest.

It's useful to have a source like this.  No body here should be afraid of being "criticised" for parading an opinion.  (I'd have to agree with OXo's view of Kiwi stuff (though the Aussies manage  to pull off quite  a few winners.)

One way to figure out what's available is to search for (say) Best Movies of 2022 and then reject (in my case) all suggested movies that are accompanied by a picture of ....teenagers, Dracula figures, Sci-fi ballocks, menopausal women, racial messaging (the  list could go on).....which then leaves one with a small modicum of half-decent movies that might be worth viewing.

Opinions expressed here are useful, since one can easily believe (or not)  the opinion expressed by its enthusiasm (or not) for subjects that interest you (or not).

Thanks to all who in their various ways contribute to this forum.

Endurance (2024)

is a remarkably well-produced documentary that most, especially seafarers and history buffs should enjoy.

It's the story of Ernest Shackleton’s doomed 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica.

The original 1919 silent footage has been remastered, with voices brought to life by AI.

The documentary also covers the 2022 quest to locate Shackleton's lost ship, the Endurance.

An interesting detail: the expedition first reached South Georgia Island, the gateway to Antarctica, exactly 110 years ago today.

The Tattooist Of Auschwitz

Very good cast & music's by Hans Zimmer.

Very well constructed series with a very delicate moral problem at its heart.    Is co-operation with  your oppressor in exchange for certain  privileges not available to others ever justified.

My (Thai) wife, who watches everything with me always from beginning to end, did not want to proceed to the later episodes after watching episode 1.  She found it too unbearably sad....

I doubt you "delete' embedded hardcoded subs, but you can remove them via cropping. In Kodi you can simply deselect a soft subtitle track for another, and select English as default in the player's subtitle options. Deleting the other files makes more sense when you have an entire series to deal with. However, if they're in mkv format, then you'll have to go thru each file w/ an MKV tool or convert them w/o the subtitles.

A small issue is that downloaded subtitle files may contain some lines of advertising that get old every time you watch a new episode in a series. I use TextCrawler to remove all those in batch.

Occasionally, the downloaded subtitles are out of sync or missing. Sync can often be dealt with easily enough in Kodi but in the worst cases will require getting out a subtitle editor. If missing, then you're back to the embedded subtitles. These can be extracted so that Kodi can apply your preferred formatting, but that's probably too much work when it comes to a series, if you're as lazy as I am. Ran across the issue in a 3-season series recently.

No Beatles music other than covers they did, it's not endorsed by the surviving Beatles

Not very good, unfortunately. Too low budget. Good settings at the beginning that recall the era. No copyrighted Beatles music. Too much compression. Notably deviates from history, really a work of fiction. Poor casting, though the lead did as well as he could w/ the material. Jay Leno as Ed Sullivan was the worst. Actress playing Cilla Black did so very convincingly and gave the movie one of its best little moments. Liked the recognition given her from the beginning as the coat check girl at the Cavern, though it was unhistorical to have the Beatles call attention to her at their first meeting w/ Brian in their "dressing room."

Great to have Brian and his contribution remembered, and hardcore Beatles fans should watch it, perhaps with remote in hand to skip over less savory parts. I suspect interest in him will never support a large budget movie. As a star, Cilla Black got this 3-part series, so much better:

Cilla

We do have this documentary:

The Brian Epstein Story

which looks pretty good and is available. I think I'll download and watch it.

The Beatles are in for some quality treatment:

Sam Mendes to Direct Four Separate Beatles Movies on Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr

There's a few apps that will accomplish that, though never used.  I've seen text removed/pixelated out with background colors.  Better but sill annoying.  Not sure how good any of the apps work.

List of them on Google if search for.

Haunted was best with her totally naked in her early 20s. Movie was good as well.

You're absolutely right - NZ TV is crap. And I can honestly say that as I am a Kiwi!
