What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2024)

If you want to be totally bamboozled and bewildered by a movie, then I suggest you watch the latest by M. Night Shyamalan, called Caddo Lake!!

It starts slowly and from thereon in becomes even more confusing towards the middle, and the ending is just plain nonsense.

Obviously he's trying to put something out there which is "mindbending", but IMO has succeeded in making a movie which is mind-boggling and indecipherable.

It's kind of hard for me to recommend this one in good faith because this movie put me to sleep three times before I finally rewound enough times to finish it. I can't explain why it put me to sleep. Maybe I was just sleepy, But I can say the entertainment payoff at the end of the movie particularly the guess who's coming to dinner type dinner party is both very hilarious and fully worth it. So recommend it I will. As you can see it's heavy on the Jewish content so I assume not for everybody.

Currently watching this one on SBS On Demand.

it's really good.

Late '80s in Northern France, women are being sexually assaulted along the same road by the Sambre river. Follow the progression of the investigation and its repercussions from the '80s through to 2018 and the beginning of the #metoo era.

Just watched an older movie filmed in and about Australia and enjoyed it, called, "The Proposition". It proved to me what a superb actor Guy Pearce is, but then I always thought that!!

Yeah, his last couple of attempts have been way below par, nothing like his earlier work.

Watched 'Investigation Alien' on Netflix. It was a bit amateurish and quite laughable in places, but an OK time waster.

They didn't even go into any depth about the Phoenix lights. There were two phenomena that night, what most people saw and what the only footage shows is flares being dropped by A-10's. But there was another event without any video that happened a few hours before where people claimed to have seen a huge metal object going low overhead and making a static hum noise.

Also watched 'The Lost Children' about the 4 children who crash-landed in the Colombian rainforest. There were 2 search groups, the army and the indigenous folks. After 40 days the army gives up but the local folk decide to take ayahuasca hoping to have a psychedelic vision as to the whereabouts of the children. They brewed it in the village and had it delivered to them in the forest by army helicopter!

Millie Black was very enjoyable, burnt in subs for some reason.

Can't get enough of fantasy 5* holiday destinations portrayed in reality as crime ridden poop holes.

Just downed The Madness, complete season and A man on the inside complete season.

Both look pretty good.

Shotime, like HBO, is generally a good sign of quality entertainment. I'll be adding it to my NAS to be watched at some point. Thanks.

Watched e01 this morning & thought it was extremely good.

This lefty comic, thinks otherwise..🤣🤣🤣

Sometimes I think critics don't actually watch what they review.

Whereas Ebert clearly loved it.

Gladiator II looks like a miss--for most of us who'd prefer Russell Crowe's character over a modern wuss.

From a review in The Federalist:

“Gladiator II” isn’t just a bad sequel. It’s a butchered, modernized reimagining, sacrificing everything that made the first movie great on the altar of Hollywood’s woke checklist.

In Gladiator,

Commodus . . . was the perfect foil. Cowardly, effeminate, insecure, and consumed by a lust for power. He showed us what happens when masculinity turns on itself. The original “Gladiator” didn’t just celebrate masculinity — it warned against its rejection.

But

The first live-action scene? Our new protagonist — Lucius — being scolded by his wife for not being “gentle enough.”

Lucius lets his wife go into battle and get killed. WOT???

And how does Lucius earn the love of the Colosseum crowd? Does he win a duel or defeat a champion? Nope. He throws dirt at a rhino. That’s it.

This film is a cautionary tale of what happens when Hollywood trades grit, character, and authenticity for leftist political messaging.

     --How ‘Gladiator II’ Rejected Masculinity

Thanks. On the basis of that review I won't be watching it however I would be interested in reading a review written from a different perspective as it were.

Just finished The Count of Monte-Christo, a French remake of the famous Dumas novel. It's quite well done, great acting all around, particularly by the actor playing Edmond Dante. At almost 3 hours, it's quite long but never gets boring. I got it at TGX and it was a fairly fast download.
