Chris Christie exits 2024 White House race with parting shot at Trump

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has dropped out of the presidential race with a parting shot at frontrunner Donald Trump.

"I am going to make sure that in no way do I enable Donald Trump to ever be president of the United States again," the Trump ally-turned-critic said.

The Republican had faced pressure to step aside and allow the party to unify around a viable challenger to Mr Trump.

He did not endorse anyone as he bowed out of the race.

 

But on a hot mic moments before he announced he was ending his bid, Mr Christie predicted that Nikki Haley, who is gaining on Mr Trump in some polls, was "going to get smoked, and you and I both know it".

"She's not up to this," he added. He also said another rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, was "petrified".

Mr Christie, 61, said he was suspending his campaign at a town hall event in the US state of New Hampshire on Wednesday afternoon.

He devoted much of his remarks to a plea to Republican voters to reject the former president, who he accused of "putting himself before the people of this country".

"Donald Trump wants you to be angry every day because he is angry," he added.

Leaving the race, Christie may hurt Trump.

New Hampshire holds a "semi-open" primary that allows unregistered voters (aka Independent voters) in addition to registered Republicans to vote in the Republican primary.

According to current registrations, Republicans represent about 30% and independent voters about 40%. 

The unregistered voters have the potential to put Halley in first place.

I was just thinking the same thing. I so would care to hear the responses by the MAGA posters, as far as positioning. Believing that RINO's have a different slant.

I don't live in the US and I'm angry at the governments we have. Given our governments are not IMO as bad as the US government I think I'd be really angry if I lived in the US, and not because of Trump. Christie needs to look at the system he is part of before throwing comments at Trump.

Trump didn't get millions of votes because everyone was happy with Washington, he got them because the US government ( of both parties ) is apparently despised by millions. He just tapped into that anger IMO.

If by friendly towards the UK you mean that he supported Brexit, maybe. But I suspect his motives weren't so much about being friendly towards brexit as they were about being hostile towards the EU. I'm sure that hostility pleased his good buddy, Vladimir Putin.

Is that why he enrolled UK in his strategic defense alliances worldwide? Or increased cooperation in military equipment (such as submarines for Australia - which won't delivered soon, but that's another story).

trump tapped into the Loser Demographic, which are people who cannot make it in a modern, competitive world or who feel entitled to things because of their ethnicity. He tapped into those who are incapable of accepting personal responsibility for their own failings and who need someone else to blame. He also tapped into losers who jump on to every conspiracy theory whackjobs make up. He tells them what they want to hear to salve their fragile loser egos.

 

Look at his cult: the racist tikitorch slimeballs from Charlottesville, who chanted "Jews will not replace us". trump owns the QAnon Cult. He has the entire Incel movement. He has the vast majority of non-college educated, below average wage, below average intellect demo. He has the Talibangicals, who even hold the silly belief that some deity sent a serial philandering, pathological liar, corrupt, self-centered, misogynistic Narcissist to 'save 'Merica'. He has the gun nuts, who think the US has no First Amendment, but just the Second. Oh, and his cult hates the Fourteenth Amendment, which prohibits anyone to run for elected office if they have engaged in insurrection against the government, which trump most surely did (fake elector scheme, pressuring election officials to change votes, calling his goobers to DC on 6 Jan 2021 and then encouraging them to go disrupt a pro forma election certification).

 

Analysis of his demo groups paint a picture of losers, the forlorn, the unsuccessful. Consider: trump won 85% of all US Counties, but collectively they represent only 38% of US GDP, while Biden (and HRC in 2016) won only 15% of US Counties, but they represent 62% of total US GDP. Doing the math, that means Biden areas are 9.25 times more productive than trump areas. trump owns the Red States, but they lead the US in being parasitic (taking more from the Federal Govt than their citizens pay in taxes), lead the US in % of citizens on Social Security Disability Insurance and SNAP Cards, also opioid addiction rates.

 

It's no wonder they have little connection to reality. They think trump was a success, when the reality includes: trump was the first President since Herbert Hoover in 1932 to leave office with fewer Americans employed than when he entered, and his economic growth (as measured by GDP change) was the worst since Hoover...and that was even before Covid hit. Oh, and trump's tenure was 80% finished when Covid hit the US, so "Covid" is hardly an excuse for his failure.

 

In any society there are always going to be losers. There is also likely to be self-serving clowns whose one skill is telling the losers what they want to hear. trump sings that siren song. The thing is, losers will still be losers.

I haven’t,I remember when he engineered that traffic jam to discredit his Democratic rival that was underhanded it was especially galling to one who was stuck in traffic many many times after working 12 hour shifts.he still called out trump for what he is,he has backbone and principles he is on the correct side of history I do wish him well and I respect him for putting principles before career and yup he plays dirty…..
