4 gold crowns on molars on separate occasions 5-8 years ago at one of the fancier looking places in Bangkok. Apparently gold (actually gold alloy) is still the best in many ways. Around $A1,000 per crown (no root canals), would have been much cheaper if not gold. Dentist told me the crowns would last from 6 to 12 years, all good so far. He was also a specialist who travelled between clinics.

Another saving is in X rays needed before work on the crown, almost negligible cost compared to Australia.

That's my understanding. Gold is much softer then ceramic. Gold flexes with the tooth better and is less likely to cause or worsen cracks. Ceranic is hard, but unyielding, so the tooth must give way to the material more resulting in a higher possibility of cracks or grinding into nearby teeth as the teeth shift over time.

I'm going through a root canal/crown treatment for my upper canine tooth at the moment. 4,000 Baht for the root canal (2 dental visits) and 6,000 Baht for the (cheapest) metal/enamel covered crown (1 dental visit).

The back teeth/molars are much larger and more expensive (6,000 Baht plus 8,000 Baht).

I did initially try another dentist who quoted 30,000 Baht for the same tooth (obviously a farang price).

Sorry to cut across the post but bottom line. I went to a dental clinic in Chonburi and I needed significant dental work ie numerous teeth extracted, implants and veneers. The price quoted was based on what the dentist thought he could, excuse the pun, extract out of me. Example a single veneer B75,000. I expected this but wanted to establish the work needed to be done. And I have. Could somebody with relevant experience please direct me to a reliable and realistic dentist located anywhere from Pattaya to Bang Saen.  Thanks in advance.

I have just been going in for cleanings at various places. If I don't like the dentist I just never return since they don't do serious work on the same day, typically.

One place wanted to do a 1k baht x-ray battery before I even met the dentist. How would they know I needed the x-ray without even looking in my mouth? I could have had perfect teeth. I just walked out.

You have misinterpreted his pricing or not telling the truth.

Impossible for a single veneer to be that price or even quoted that price. A price of 7.500 baht is about right for a composite veneer (porcelain 2-3 times that).

A very good quality implant with crown would be about 75k.

In Pattaya (at BPH) a root canal is approx 15,000 baht, a top notch ceramic crown is approx 16,000 baht and maybe 2,000 baht for misc fees/supplies etc. If a pin is needed for the crown then that is approx 4000 baht.

So about 4 visits and about 35,000 baht.

Hope that helps.

I paid more than that in America in deductibles!

At last a thread I can get my teeth into!

But it is true dental treatment here (at Government hospitals at least) is good value compared to my country - that is if you can find a dentist to "take you".

I didn’t go into it in detail. But the estimate came to a basic B350,000 with add ons. Each veneer was depending on quality ranged from 30K to 75K. The estimate also had numerous ???’s. that would definitely be added later. He enticed me in at 350K with the likely final bill of close to 1 million Baht. I realise veneers are anything from 8 to 12K   I tested him and he failed. I do have a plan on what needs to be done with x rays that cost me B2100. So now looking for a reliable and honest dental clinic.

Had lots of root canals and crowns down in Bangkok and Pattaya, and recently in Vietnam. In Pattaya it shouldn't be more than 12000 Baht for root treatment plus ceramic crown.

They do professionel work in Vietnam, too.And it's significantly cheaper than Thailand.

The crowns come with a warranty. The more expensive they are, the longer the warranty.

I am currently half way through this process, again.

Two sessions of RCT - Baht 6,700 for molar tooth (3 roots).

Estimated 3 sessions for crown work - Baht 14,500.

Work done by two dental specialists, who work in government hospitals, but do extra work at a private clinic.

Please share clinic, molar for this price, sounds too good to be true. I will travel to Hua hin or wherever you are based and spend remainder for holidays if its real :)

Why 3 sessions?

Sounds too cheap to me. Are you going to small hole in the wall places? Did it have private rooms, or a communal room with other patients?

Absolutely not. I have been to some really bad dentists in BKk and Pattaya in the distant past. Back then,  I was a dental cheap charley. Having had really bad teeth all my life, something I inherited from my parents-bless them-I have spent more time in dental chairs than most of you. Run through dozens of dentists, some really bad ones among them,in half a dozen countries. I eventually settled on one in Pattaya, to which I have been going for 20 years. I also found a good one in Vietnam, where I have been spending most of my time in recent years.

I have put the topic title as I know a lot of you are bored with dental topics but I couldn't careless I'm asking the questions whether you get bored or not

I have been quoted $2,900 AUD in Australia which is around 70,000 Thai baht for a Root canal includes a metallic crown apparently have no idea what that means but anyway

I argued with the Australian dentist

"This is too much ,I'm only a hospital cleaner I shouted

" I will give you $1000 ( around 23000 Thai baht)

He shouts back " If you don't like it......leave !!!!!

Leave !!! If you don't like it !....leave !

Upper right tooth near the front 3rd from front

About 3-4 visits approx

70,000 baht !!!!

How much in Thailand or Cambodia or Philippines?

Well my aybe not Cambodia

Philippines may be a option BUT I'm thinking more Thailand!!!!

I'm thinking of making a trip to save and cancel this Australia dental appointment!

I've had several root canals done in Pattaya. I'm currently in the middle of treatment.

3 root canal treatments spaced at least 1 week apart. 2000 THB x 3 = 6000 THB

Crown from 6000 to 8000 - your choice of material.

My total, 12,000 baht.

My root canals have been molars, which have 2 or 3 roots. Looks like you need the cuspid (canine) tooth treated - tooth #6. They have 1 root. Maybe it's cheaper?

The Dentist, Dr Warin Leekpai does outstanding work. He's by far the most highly recommended dentist in Pattaya. I've been using him since 2008.

Why 3 sessions?

The dentist needs to dig out the roots - remove them entirely and treat the canal to kill bacteria. This is typically done in 3 sessions. After each session, they place a temporary filling over the canal. They are killing the tooth, although, by the time you need the root canal, the root is probably already dead and festering. The earlier you get to it, the better. If you have a toothache, don't wait.

I lost a molar tooth recently as one of the roots had broken off. RIP

The crowns themselves are not usually the problem. The problems usually start if you develop an infection under the crown. This is the case if you develop a toothache under the crowned tooth and usually a sign the dentist did a bad job cleaning out the root.

Bear in mind it's a dead tooth with no blood supply, so infections can set in where your natural immune system cannot help.

Resting in pieces

LOL. It was a somber occasion as it was my very first tooth extraction. I had the broken tooth sitting on my desk for months, to mourn its passing. It had been in my mouth for about 60 years.

Such a demanding guy. Hope you leave your attitude back home if you come to Thailand. And if they say 15k don’t go offering them less or you’ll take you business elsewhere. They won’t tell you straight to F off like in oz rather in a passive way “sorry cannot”. 😂😂😂

There are some very good dentists here in Thailand. In the last several years I had a bridge installed, a couple of root canals, a few crowns and an implant, and the work was fantastic. The implant cost 40,000 baht in America it is $5000. The crowns cost 9000 baht, in America they're $1500. The root canals were 9000 baht, in America they're $1800. Dentistry and medical in the US is bordering on absolute silliness when it comes to pricing.

I know people in the Usa that had teeth pulled because they could not afford the costly treatments. Sad.

As the OP I just want to clarify this is a tooth in right side upper area like 3 teeth towards the right from the front

Root canal and metallic crown with health insurance still quoted around 70,000 baht in Australia

Some say that's ok

Any Philippines expats here ??

What's the price in Manila?

You're probably better off getting it done locally, unless you are out in the country somewhere. I went back and forth to bangkok for an involved procedure when I needed a specialist and it becomes difficult and tiring when you need several sessions. The cost of transport and lodging needs to be considered.

Yes thanks

But does that include the root canal ?

Ask her what the approx cost for a root canal plus metallic crown is

,I have no idea what a metallic crown is but that's what they put in the quote for $2,900 / 70,000 thai baht

Root canal is charged by no. of roots. Diff. teeth = diff. Roots. Depending on dentist & type of cap (ceramic, ceramic/gold combined) price may be around 25K. If there are no problems along the way.

Yes it's very sad, it's truly pathetic, it's a completely broken system. The health insurance cost is ridiculously expensive and if you don't have it, often times you do have to skip treatment because the cost is so insane. He had a choice of getting an implant, but at $5,000 that's only for the those that have significant savings, or great insurance.

America is great? I don't think so. Let me count the ways she has failed her people and the world.

This.  So yes, definitely less expensive in Thailand than in Oz.
