Thaksin’s future still in the balance

How interesting ......

Is someone (who?) driving the message home prior to Thaksin's imminent parole expectation (expecting 22 February or shortly after that). It certainly makes it crystal clear, that he is not to rock the (political dinosaur) boat and that some drummers are keeping a very, very close eye.

As said, how interesting, this arena of circus politics ......

They have to grubby him up a bit before releasing him, all part of the show.

You can't just let him skip out the hospital, into his Benz and on his way home all shiny and new. A display of fake accountability is where it's at.

Remember he's smarter, craftier and more hair dyed than all us.

Ex-PM Thaksin eyes special parole as prison sentence hits halfway mark
by Mitch Connor

Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand, is eligible for special parole as he approaches the halfway point of his prison sentence on February 18, according to an insider from the Department of Corrections (DoC). The source confirmed that Thaksin is included in a list of inmates who qualify for parole and special parole.

Special parole may be granted to prisoners who are over 70 years old, critically ill, or disabled, after serving a third of their sentence. Thaksin, who had previously spent 15 years in self-imposed exile, returned to Thailand on August 22, 2023. The Chiang Mai-born politician was subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison by the Supreme Court for his past legal cases, a sentence later reduced to one year by royal clemency.

On his first night at Bangkok Remand Prison, the 74 year old former PM was transferred to Police General Hospital due to alleged serious illnesses, as per the DoC doctors’ recommendation. The list of inmates eligible for parole is set to be forwarded to the justice minister for review.

A contact from the Ministry of Justice pointed out that the DoC’s rules for assessing an inmate’s eligibility for parole do not specify the type of cases that qualify.

The man said many years ago that he wanted to be Thailands 1st president.. I think that is violation of section 112 and need to be punished, but everybody seems to have forgotten it

The funny thing is that if the PTP had backed MFP, then Thaksin would have been free and clear.

The military Elite is going to have a fight as the last thing PTP wants him arrested again. HOWEVER, their supporters are going to want him in jail unless they want the fight about how the MFP can be guilty for wanting to put forward changes to LM and Thaksin can get away with literally slandering the king.

This is part of the ongoing planned drama. It is all being staged. We knew from the time the PT surrendered, and gave up any shred of morality and principal they had by jumping in bed with the highly toxic and corrupt army, that he would be protected. It is likely there is also a plan to bring back Yingluck. This is just one huge charade.

Thaksin Tipped To Be Released On Parole On Feb.18
By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE “UNTOUCHABLE” DE FACTO PHEU THAI boss-cum-convict at large Thaksin Shinawatra will likely be released on parole on Feb.18, a police source said today (Feb.6).

The deposed prime minister is now expected to be released on parole after he has spent more than five months for medical treatments of his mystery-shrouded “illnesses” at Police Hospital instead of being literally put behind bars at Bangkok Remand Prison to serve a curtailed, one-year jail term for convicted misconduct perpetrated during his previous premiership.

Justice Minister Thawee Sodsong declined to either confirm or deny news reports that the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict at large will be released on parole on Feb.18, saying the matter depends on a decision made by a 19-person government committee in charge of granting paroles.

Thawee commented that Thaksin has already practically spent half of his jail sentence at Police Hospital though he may have been basically supposed to be put behind bars at Bangkok Remand Prison since he returned from self-exile abroad last August.

Time to break out the shoe box full of 19 envelopes. He will get the parole and then pay his way out of les majesty conviction. What really amazes me is that if he had a Les majesty charge pending then why did he get a royal pardon reducing his sentence.. and why prosecutors are unable to go question him? The man may be in a hospital but he is supposed to still be in custody. So he has no rights to refuse police interrogation. All of this recent news seems to be a deflection to his being released in 2 weeks on parole.

Just more nonsense.

When I read the BK post full story , I could not help but form the same opinion, just a side track, or curved ball , but why bother in the first place. maybe it will make the people think the police are doing a good job, meanwhile his sheets get changed every day at the Police Hospital, for the former policeman himself, LOS , keep smiling entertainment will keep coming.

Probably more of the same - don't you know who I am. Just a nod from the top and all is forgiven.

Well, this development does rather call in to question the conspiracy theorists' hoohaa about everything having been organised and paid for in advance of his return to Thailand.

People with a brain might want to reflect on that.

I am also pretty sure he made arrangements before he returned to Thailand.

But the problem is even if you pay off 100 people there might be someone else or something else you didn't think about.

You're probably right. Too many nutters on all sides of every equation ...

But my basic point remains: that the conspiracy theorists here on AN presented the image of a slick corrupt all-powerful all-knowing Thaksin with every deal a done deal in advance, all sown up.

But, apparently, not so.
