Popular Post webfact
AN EM ANKLE BRACELET will definitely not be put on the “untouchable” de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict Thaksin Shinawatra during his parole, according to a senior government official. Corrections Department director-general Sahakarn Petchanarin confirmed today (Feb.14) Thaksin may go around anywhere in the country without an EM ankle bracelet during his parole, expected to begin on the upcoming Sunday or Monday, after he has roughly served half of his one-year “sentence” at Police Hospital in lieu of Bangkok Remand Prison. Being over 70 years old and having “critical illnesses” the symptoms and details of which remain a mystery to the public, Thaksin will be literally free of any EM shackles, according to the department chief. During parole, Thaksin can go on air for an interview at a news agency or travel anywhere within the country but cannot leave the country, according to the department chief. Popular Post Scouse123
To say this has become a boring subject is an understatement, and reporters are just now over egging the pudding for a hardly newsworthy story. An ankle bracelet is placed on offenders to make sure you can monitor their movements, the purpose of which is to stop repeat offending and keep a track on them. In Thaksin's case, it is hardly relevant. He's not going to become a cat burglar with alleged health issues and over 70 years old. An ankle monitoring device would be a complete waste of time. They've made no secret of the fact he has received preferential treatment in the extreme, why start implementing stupid restrictions now. He's hardly going to flee the country, he spent 16 years getting back in. 1 1 2 1 3

Popular Post ross163103
Was there ever any doubt he wouldn't have an ankle bracelet, be serious! I agree with bokningar; this is one of the many reasons Thailand can never move up on the world stage, hard to take them serious with blantant/rampant corruption going on! Lets see how long that lasts. Before the military "ran him out of the country" he was all in with the military, especially with the Southern Provincial insurrection. Id say that it's more accurate that the Royalists-Elites (aka Deep State) ran him out as he discovered how to mobilize the electorate that threatens to turn the government into a more progressive state and give him greater power. 1

They can be given the tracking device for up to 10 years. But Three categories of criminals would be considered for this new programme, depending on the crimes that they committed: (1) People who kidnap for ransom or unlawfully detain someone against their will; (2) People who commit violent crimes and (3) People who are arrested for acts of sexual violence. Thaksin obviously does NOT fall into any of the three categories. Hence no legal grounds for an ankle bracelet. 1
Cabradelmar
He's paroled. Not under house arrest. Those types of monitoring devices are not needed give his circumstances. 1
Popular Post spidermike007
Why the surprise? As I said recently, this was always going to happen. It was planned, and was a quid pro quo with the spectacularly toxic and corrupt army. When his party capitulated, dropped any semblance of morality or ethics, and decided to no longer represent their constituents, by allowing the army continued control, it was a done deal. Thaksin sacrificed the future of the nation, for his own freedom. It would appear to be a good indicator of just who the man is. Yingluck will likely return too. The greedy army can continue feeding at the trough. It is always about money and the power for them. The useless institution known as the Thai army, is a boil on the face of the nation. Let's see what happens with the senators. The army is likely maneuvering now to extend their terms. The moral rot continues. Any moral authority the nation once had, is gone baby gone. Fortunately, little of this affects us directly. For now. 1

Sig
I don't imagine he'll be traveling around the country much at all. He'll likely want to hole up in his place and focus on recovery after his long critical illness. He probably needs to gain some weight back. After an illness like that, he must have lost 10kg, who knows, maybe more! I lost 18 kg during my critical illness over about the same time period as his. So, I'm sure he won't be seen in public as he needs to focus on regaining his health, energy, and etc... Poor guy.... So sad to return to his country only to be so miserable.... a real pity.
