Thailand has offered an official apology to India over a remark made by a Thai trade representative at the 13th World Trade Organisation ministerial conference in the United Arab Emirates.

 

The Thai representative is reported to have said, during the conference, that the Indian government’s measure to supply cheap rice to its people by subsidising the cost of its production is not actually intended for the good of the people, but to increase export market share.

 

The Indian government contends, however, that the measure is to ensure food security in India and the surplus rice is exported, because India is an established major rice exporter like Thailand.

Thailand does the same thing.....

I am not sure Thailand understand the magnitude of India’s population. It’s a tough order of magnitude to ensure food for 1.5 billion people. I think every country should think about their citizens first.

Many of those wandering around in Thailand look like they get more than a share of the rice.

Of course subsidising Thai produce is something Thailand would never do....

I have frequently heard Thais making derogatory comments about Indians. Apparently they feel some sort of false sense of superiority over them. Perhaps it is over something as silly as lighter skin? 

That's what happens when nepotism rears its ugly head and instead of hiring the best. you hire your friends and family.
