It only shows that there is an outdated system...Labour laws should be updated and the company knows what they were doing, but apparently they are not the one to blame.. Besides that I think every normal thinking person, knows that young people can't have a long stay here without doing anything. They have to live and need money. Russians for example are fleeing Russia, but they need money and try to get a workpermit in Thailand. It cost a lot of time mostly 3 months and the company have to give a lot of information/papers.. No wonder they don't want to do it for the employee. Besides that long term visa holders should get automatically a workpermit. They are not tourists. Also the retirees.. What does Thailand think people are sitting the whole day on a chair and do nothing?? Even working as a volunteer is not allowed. Every job needs a workpermit... Time for changes

Absolute rubbish.

It is relatively easy to get a work permit in Thailand. Thousands do.

It is their country, they can do what they like.

The Chalong Police told the Phuket Express that over the past weekend they inspected an unidentified company in Chalong. A 38 year-old Russian woman and a 26 year-old Belarusian woman were found working at the company.

They were unable to present legal work permits to officers. They were taken to the Chalong Police Station to face charges of working without legal permission.

And the undisclosed company owner, also arrested and charged for employing illegal workers

Unnamed journalists allegedly apparently possibly maybe found to be working without a brain. Said allegedly unnamed spokesperson "Brainless reporting is a reserved occupation particularly in tourist areas such as Phuket and Pattaya." All allegations have been denied, allegedly.

IF Bangkok sent down 20 undercover cops to Phuket and they spent 4 hours visiting motorcycle rentals, bars, shops in Karon, Kata, Patong
they would easily arrest at least 100 foreign nationals!

They dont want to!!!
these few arrests are just for show

Maybe these two weren't paid for. Working without a work permit is up to 5 years in prison OR B2,000 to B100,000 fine. for both employee and employer. But the employer usually gives a tip.

All they would have to is go through all the Russian Facebook groups that are here in Phuket,

Normally the company would be fined, under or over the table. ATM though it's all about arrests.

No change is no progress too...I know Thailand is very conservative, although they pretend to be a modern country

Each district has to find a least 2 or 3 sacrificial lambs, bring them to the slaughter, proof for public and the Big Phuket police general that they are following orders and producing good results. This way the big guy can tell the Minister he his following his orders.

As others have said, there are hundreds of foreigners working and living illegally in Phuket Province. Police in Thailand are for most part, very intelligent. 90% of the time, Police know exactly what is happening in their territories and chose either to act or ignore the activities.

These few are the ones that do not want or can to pay the followup money and are therefore exposed. You guess how many people have been caught lately and just bribe their way out instantly, because as you said, if they really cared they could get hundreds of them.

Pretty much any canabis dispensary has a russian casually sitting there, waiting to take care of russian customers.
