British drug dealer arrested in Chiang Mai

There’s been a purge to arrest people working in Thailand without a work permit. Now, this…

 

Police, acting on a tip-off that a foreign national was selling drugs to tourists in Chiang Mai, have arrested a 48 year old British man.

 

Charly Garcia was arrested on Tuesday, March 12, according to a Nation Thailand report. He was detained during a sting operation at a shop selling cannabis products in the Mueang district of the northern province.

Another bad news Brit.

Hope everyone reads the link article guy is a disgusting major drug dealer.

Good luck in Thai prison loser.

Even bigger:

"A search of the suspect’s condo in the sub-district of Chang Phueak uncovered over 400 grams of cocaine, 595 grams of magic mushrooms, and 160 Valium and Xanax pills."

I know we have all been conditioned that drugs are bad.. .war on drugs etc... 

 

Are those not recreational drugs ??...    i.e. drugs people use to have a good time, much like drinking alcohol ?

 

This is not Heroin or crack-cocaine...     and this guy is hardly a major drug dealer pedalling heroin to children.

 

I'm not defending this guy at all, he's broken the laws and he knew the law.

 

 

What I am questioning is the attitude towards recreational drugs in the first place (not just Thailand, but world wide)...    In another world with more objective attitudes this guy is no more guilty than someone serving a beer... 

 

I know, we are not in that world, but my point is, what authorities have labelled as 'terrible'... is it really that terrible ??? (Coke, LSD, Magic Mushrooms, Ecstasy)...    any worse that going on a drinking binge ?

From the linked article: "According to the report, Garcia has admitted selling the drugs to foreign tourists using the Telegram app. He says he purchased all the drugs, with the exception of the magic mushrooms, from a Black man in Chiang Mai, for 800,000 baht."

 

Hmmm. Let's have a stab at who gave the tip-off.

Around these parts it's worse than murder, he will be sentenced to more than 20 years in prison which will be reduced to 20 years as it's the maximum sentence allowed.

 

You could go out into the street and start lopping heads off and it's not as serious as this guys charges.

Agreed...  Everyone knows...  stay well away from drugs due to the extreme, harsh and barbaric penalties such 'offences' attract. 

 

In the UK a Brit was sentenced to 25 years in prison for having a friends Vape Pen in his car (which contained THC oil)... the penalty is clearly excessive from very angle...   

As are the penalties towards many drugs offenses in Thailand. 

 

How many guys were serving decades for dealing Marijuana which is now suddenly legally and socially acceptable...

 

 

Of course - don't do the crime etc etc..    but my point again, is how out of 'balance' the penalties seem with the actual offence committed.

How are you supposed to take laws seriously when the people in charge don't even know what the laws are.

 

There's many thing illegal in Thailand that everyone seems to do, yet do the wrong one of those and you are in prison for 20 years!

So much BS here. Name irrelevant. British national by evidence of passport. He broke the law, that seems to be par for British people in Thailand, so now he pay the price. Good for him!
