   Two spoiled brats.  Driving without a license charge, though--that's rich.  True for about every tourist allowed to illegally rent a motorbike in Thailand--which too often leads to injury, death, or trouble such as this.

I don't think cash will help now. They're in the system and won't be paying their way out.

 

The best thing they could do would be to get down on their knees, perform the deepest wai, apologise profusely for their total madness and plead for forgiveness. Plead guilty as early as possible (NOW!!!) to all charges which will reduce their sentence. If they are lucky, they might get sentenced to less than a couple of years in prison, and be released after serving 12 months or so. They should be back in New Zealand around the middle of next year. I really think that is about the best they can hope for.

The two suspects are facing charges related to robbery, assaulting or resisting an officer on duty, and driving without a valid license. Despite allegedly attempting to bribe the police to avoid further charges, their efforts were unsuccessful.

 

Additionally, the New Zealand embassy has been notified of the situation.

Back when I first started coming to Thailand in the 80s it was mostly friendly Aussies and things were beautiful as Aussies know how to respect local culture and get along with friendly Thais.

 

Now with the influx of the second rate citzens from countries like Russia, the Uk, the USA, Kiwis and the Europeans and their often violent tempers and entitled attitude they have ruined it for us as unfortunately now we are put in the same "farang" basket. The stories come in everyday.

 

That Kiwi bloke spitting on the car and kicking the car last week was an obvious New Zealander who happened to have an Australian passport. They cause us a lot of problems Down Under as well.

 

As POTY i would ask people to show some respect to your hosts and pull your heads in and if you see a countryman behaving badly pull him aside and tell him to calm down.

The Thais are lovely people and dont deserve this. The Thai people are why Thailand is so great. Bordering countries like Vietnam, Burma etc have beautiful beaches, warm weather etc but nowhere beats Thailand.
