Popular Post webfact
A water splash dispute between a foreign man and a Thai man became more than a storm in a coffee cup at a petrol station in the eastern province of Rayong sparking controversy on Thai social media. The argument reportedly began when the Thai man splashed water into the foreign man’s coffee cup. The Thai man, identified only as Sorn, is seeking justice by posting a video of the incident at the petrol station on April 14 on social media. In the video, the foreign man and his Thai wife can be seen arguing with a group of Thai people who were in a pickup truck preparing to participate in a water fight in Rayong. Due to the chaotic situation, the conversation between the two parties was difficult to comprehend in the video. Sorn informed PPTV HD that he sprayed the foreign man with a water gun as the foreigner walked by with a cup of coffee in his hand. Sorn stated that he noticed the foreigner was unhappy because water spilt into his coffee. So, he apologised to the man. According to Sorn, the foreign man was not satisfied with his apology. Allegedly, the foreign man used offensive language towards Sorn, insulted him, and threw the coffee cup at his family’s car. Sorn mentioned that he bought the foreigner a new cup of coffee but his wife threw it away and accused him of speaking rudely. Sorn insisted he did not use offensive language or behave poorly towards the couple. Sorn said the Thai woman told him that she was a dentist in Rayong. She and her husband paid significant taxes to Thailand annually. However, Sorn found this unrelated to the issue. Opinions divided Sorn further claimed that the Thai woman threatened to file a lawsuit against him and would demand high compensation if he released a video of the altercation to the public. Sorn said he splashed many people who walked by and no one was angry at him because it was the Songkran festival. He expressed his efforts to apologise to the couple and encouraged netizens to voice their opinions. Opinions among netizens were split. Some supported Sorn, arguing that the couple should not go out if they did not want to get wet during Songkran. Others believed the couple’s anger was unwarranted since their belongings were unaffected. “It’s Songkran for heaven’s sake. Respect Thai culture. If people splash water at you during Songkran you should make a wai, be grateful, say thank you and wish them a happy new year. If you don’t want to get wet then stay at home or in your car. Unacceptable behaviour from both the farang husband and his Thai wife. Shame on them.” Others viewed the incident differently, suggesting that Sorn should not randomly splash water on people. Many Thais and foreigners preferred not to participate in water fights, and Sorn’s actions could result in legal consequences. According to the law, Sorn could face imprisonment for up to one month, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both if the water splashing causes physical harm. If the water splashing damages victims’ belongings, the penalty could be imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทริน์ part 6 Source: The Thaiger 2024-04-18 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe 1

Popular Post thesetat
Throwing water for Songkran is not the Thai tradition for Songkran. It could be taken to court. It seems even Thai people have forgotten what tradition is for Songkran. Throwing the water at someone who is not participating in the event is rude. Especially if walking by with something in your hand like food or drink. Noone respects this and thinks everyone out wants to play this way. HOwever, I do not think the police will look at it this way either. The foreigner is wrong and will be treated as such. A bad guy for causing a disturbance. Throw his ass out of the country haha... Just joking of course. But is this not what the country seems to be trying to do? The foreigner was wrong though for overreacting and speaking the way he did. IF the man really did buy him a new cup of coffee then all should have been forgiven. 4 2
Popular Post Gottfrid
Normally, most foreigners know how it is and also can see and hear a car full with people and water during Song Kran. In most cases it´s just to put up the hand in a stop sign, and most of the Thais throwing water respect that. Here it looks like neither the foreigner nor his wife did that, which during Song Kran means it´s okay to throw. The Thai person splashing him or shooting him with water, probably didn´t notice the coffee cup before it was too late. After that he apologize and also buy him a new cup of coffee. Neither the foreigner nor his wife are happy with that. The wife seems to think she is better than everyone as she pay soo much tax, and both the foreigner and his wife have anger management issues. They should just close shop in Thailand and move back to Farangland. Stupid people! 2 1

The ones who respect Thailand and it´s people do not have to worry. Sue, you are right. Original Song Kran tradition is lost. However, this is the tradition of today. Everything evolves. The Thai guy ask for forgiveness and also bought him a new cup of coffee. Should have been fine with that. 1 1

Aussie999
Is throwing water, without permission, a form of assault, before anyong jumps on me, I do live in Thsiland, I love Songkran, but I can see people who don't, it's not hard, if unsure, ask if it's ok. 1
Popular Post mikecha
This foreign guy and his so called intelligent wife should have just stayed cool as everywhere in Thailand plays with water, To start shouting and showing your real attitude towards culture party is not really the best thing to do in these party times People are intoxicated have short fuses but mean no harm it is there country Why did he not accept the new coffee From this guy and tell his non intelligent half to Zip her mouth is very big . its a national party famous for water we also got soaked many times in the last few days who cares enjoy life and move on . if you get your fuse lit like this guy better move on to another county and steam there , Most Farangs here in Thailand enjoyed themselves for the few days or did not go on the streets if you stay here and get involved in the Thai traditions some are fantastic some so so but as always it is your choice either participate or walk away . But never loose your cool here .Because u will loose like he has done now it has gone virile on the net millions will see if he had a reputation and also she then it is totally blown away to 0 and if he has mates here they probably will make fun of him/Her 1 1 1

gravity101
We only have one side to the story at the moment. The side of the story that makes the Thai guy look like an apologetic angel. From the video the yank does imply that he told them he was carrying green tea and they still splashed him after. I'd be upset too, not yank explosive upset of course, but still pretty miffed. 1

newbee2022
I could understand very clear what the British (I suppose) was shouting. Not nice to use such words. Seems to be a lack of education and self control. I advise him not to be in Thailand during Songkran.....if he can afford.☺️

NONG CHOK
A few days ago I had to go shopping in Tukcom, on my return home I got on a baht bus and travelled the full distance of Second Road. As the traffic was very slow people on baht buses were subjected to a deluge of water from passing pick up trucks every time they had to stop. Surely they should ban water being thrown from the back of vehicles. As I've suggested many times unless these morons can tone it down heaps, the local Amphur should have designated water throwing areas. It would be much easier to patrol and the BIB's may well be surprised who they meet there. 1 2

It's Thai culture guys. It's not polite to dump water in someone's coffee the rest of the year how does it become acceptable during a 3 day magic window? Nothing changes, your coffee is still ruined all the same.

BritScot
The same people blaming The Foreigner and degrading the Foreigner's Spouse! Is so typical on here. It happened in a petrol station, the Foreigner (racist as should be just man and his wife but the derogatory use "Foreigner and slighting his wife" is pure racist). I too would be so very angry at a grown man throwing water at me in a petrol station ruining my coffee and soaking me. This nonsense about respecting Thai Traditions or ever changing Thai Traditions. Well my Scottish Tradition or even male tradition is to knockout a man out who throws a drink in my face!!! 1
