Biden Roasts Trump, Addresses Press Freedom at White House Correspondents' Dinner

In a lighthearted yet pointed speech at the White House correspondents' dinner, President Joe Biden took jabs at former President Donald Trump while also addressing serious issues like press freedom and the stakes of the upcoming election.

 

Biden didn't hold back in his comedic remarks, quipping about his political rival's age by jokingly referring to himself as "a grown man running against a six-year-old." He also poked fun at Trump's relationship with his former vice president, Mike Pence, highlighting Pence's reluctance to endorse Trump for the 2024 election.

 

However, amidst the humor, Biden turned serious as he emphasized the importance of the upcoming presidential election and criticized Trump's "attack on our democracy." The president also used the platform to address the wrongful detention of journalists abroad, specifically mentioning The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who has been imprisoned in Russia on espionage charges. Biden pledged to do everything in his power to bring Gershkovich, as well as other wrongfully detained Americans like freelance journalist Austin Tice and businessman Paul Whelan, home safely.

 

Gershkovich's parents and Tice’s mother were among the attendees at the dinner, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Biden reiterated his commitment to securing the release of all wrongfully detained Americans, emphasizing that journalism is not a crime and that a free press is essential to a free society.

 

The event, attended by celebrities and high-profile politicians alike, showcased a mix of humor and gravitas. Comedian Colin Jost, the featured entertainer of the evening, delivered his own set of jokes, poking fun at both Biden and Trump. However, amidst the laughter, the dinner served as a reminder of the importance of press freedom and the need to address threats to democracy both at home and abroad.

The US following Thailand's lead in using the courts to remove the people's choice. Same same... The only difference is in the US they get their lumps in early, before the election rather than after.

Taking the mass graves near hospitals not serious at all, instead of supporting independent investigations let the IDF investigate. Which they have already stated they won't.

Putin should receive a warrant by the ICC, but of course not the Israeli government officials.

Biden is a disgrace, all the more because he's always portrayed as 'a decent man!', 'so empathetic!'.

For Biden Palestinian children simply don't count. He deserves nothing but disdain, and certainly not a vote in November.

Trump had 4 years to 'sort the southern border', and yet illegal immigration increased on his watch, in spite of severe travel restrictions in all countries due to covid. Now, that's quite a non-accomplishment..

Most sitting US- Presidents have been guilty of neglecting and even working against the interests of the Palestinian people, and Trump was no exception. There were at least two major clashes between Gaza and Israel during his presidency, and he stood firmly by Israel each time. He even moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, a huge provocation against the Palestinian people, and he oversaw the transfer of billions of dollars of military aid to Israel, weapons that are now being used against the Palestinians.

Trump allowed himself to be laugh at with consistent comic moments. Problem is that he can't stop with his funny acts. FRom staring at the solar eclipse to coming up with words like covfefe to the latest Gettysburg gaffe, he keep giving materials for many to poke fun. I think Biden roasting of Trump was spot-on funny.
