A restaurant owner in Chon Buri, Thailand, has offered a job to an unemployed man and his young son who recently became the focus of a viral story. The man and his son were charged an exorbitant 70 baht for a simple meal of rice and two eggs, leading to public outcry.

 

The story caught the attention of Chef Maggie, owner of Khlang Na Pla Khao Restaurant, who extended a job offer to the unemployed dad, eliciting widespread support and admiration online.

 

On May 2, the restaurant posted on Facebook asking for help to find the father and his son who had been seen eating the overpriced egg-rice dish. The post gained a lot of attention and shares, suggesting that the man could work at the local restaurant given his unemployment status.

 

Responding to the father's predicament, Chef Maggie, whose real name is Pratchaya Prayat, expressed that he wanted to help out and provide an opportunity. The father could potentially fill the roles of a cook or a server at the restaurant, ensuring he had a source of income to support his family.

 

Pratchaya drew attention to the importance of supporting those in need during tough times. He sought to help all parties involved by offering the father a chance to earn a livelihood at his restaurant.

 

Before losing his job, the father had previously been a chef but was rendered unable to cook following an accident that injured his fingers. Pratchaya spoke to the man, offering him roles that did not require cooking, such as a server or order-taker. The man was considering another job in Bangkok, awaiting a call back in two to three days.

 

The restaurant owner's empathy and initiative have garnered praise from the online community. His actions not only offered immediate help to the father and his son but also demonstrated the power of community support and social media in rallying together for a good cause.

    Maybe I am just cynical , buy maybe Pratchaya couldn't find anyone willing to work in his restaurant and so offered the job to a desperate person  . Pratchaya may have just been helping himself, rather than helping other people

Officials Investigate Overcharging for Food in Pattaya

 

 

The Deputy Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, Udom Srisomsong, has ordered the Chonburi commerce office to inspect a restaurant that charges 70 baht (approximately $1.8) for a plate of rice and two fried eggs.

 

This examination was prompted by a case in Pattaya where a customer was billed 70 baht for this simple dish. Notably, the restaurant's quick meals, more elaborate than a plate of rice and eggs, are listed at the same price, which is considered unfair.

 

In addition to this questionable pricing, the restaurant did not clearly display food prices, a violation of local regulations. The inspection's results, conducted by local commerce authorities, are still pending.

 

If intentional violations are found, the restaurant could face legal punishments including a fine of up to 10,000 baht for not displaying prices, or, in the case of overcharging, a jail term of up to seven years and/or fines up to 140,000 baht. All investigations will rely on factual evidence to ensure fairness.

 

Public members who observe such improper practices in any store are encouraged to report the incidents immediately through the hotline number 1569.

This is going to be a tough audit.

Probably a stock photo. The suspect restaurant probably uses free-range eggs and organic rice. Once the chillies, fish sauce, aircon and gas are factored in, then I suppose you're looking at 70 baht. Notwithstanding, they can charge what the hell they like. Jeez.

Now the mans has to work  long days for a too low salary to be able to buy overpriced food...Question for me is why has the man no job as almost all people have job according to the Thai News...
