I could be wrong, but I'd suspect that he wasn't wanted by the FBI until after he left the country. He was on bail. I don't think the FBI cares about every Tom, Dick, and Harry (or insert your favorite immigrant names) who is on bail. But they do care about bail-jumpers who leave the country. 1

Had he been in NYC, they amended their laws about thefts because they were getting too many people stealing from the stores - now, if the amount of stolen material is less than a thousand dollars then that is no crime. Now stores are having to close totally because of the gangs coming in stealing the merchandise and when the police nab the offenders, they just have to let them go as "no crime committed". Agreed, they just gave the criminals the green light to go raid any store they feel like. 1

Maybe but I would have thought on charges like that they would confiscate Selva's passport. 1

Inspector Clousaeu could find him and arrest him in about one day but the entire weight of the thai police and justice system can't find him even though they have been looking for years....yeah right. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz 1

Upon arrival into the USA CBP will run the check as standard procedure during inspection. If a warrant is in effect they will detain the person until the agency who authorized the warrant is contacted. The original agency will determine the outcome. Obtaining a passport is a separate issue. The State Department issues passports and I’m not sure of the level of criminal checks involved. I have heard that individuals who are delinquent on child support payments will not be issued passports.

Probably because the court did not confiscate his passport. The American courts are very busy places, badly overworked. If you go to trial you might have to wait two or three years for your case to start. We have the most prisoners of any country on the planet (including China), but Congress does not want to increase taxes to pay for their War on Drugs. Most Americans, including judges, never think about overseas travel, so I can see how it could be overlooked.

Paris333 Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 Congratulation to Thai Authorities for their promptly response. Thailand FBI will surrender him to American F.B.I.......Does he accuse for "something" in Thai region or in American region he was a bad guy and in Thailand become "good guy"? 🧐 Airlines have no direct access to Security Authorities for wanted criminals when the whole planet is on alert for wanted terrorists......Otherwise how is it possible for a serious criminal to travel from U.S.A to Asia region and passed all check airport points? The usual common "story" pay us your arrival visa and you are a great guy at our territory! Thanks for visiting us.....!!!
Middle Aged Grouch Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 Yes let's welcome the quality tourists in Thailand and let's rather harass the retirees who own houses on lease on their visa issues...

Surely he should have been flagged as wanted and arrested at the US airport when he tried to leave Well I thought the question was strange because there are no checks on anyone leaving USA. So why would he have been stopped?
geisha Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 Well he’s certainly made a name for himself around the world ! He’s made headlines in dozens of newspapers from Oregon to France to Borneo !!

But indeed, judge should have required him to surrender his passport as condition of bail. 1

There is no direct immigration processing outbound but every time you show ID at airport security name goes thru the system just like traffic stops Guess they were not looking for him yet People get stopped at airports all the time just because they have the same or similar name as a wanted person or crim. This the need for redress numbers

All apparently over a few baht to a taxi driver. inmates have metal pipes and bats? 1

I suspect the only passport check at the airport is that your name matches the airticket / boarding pass.
