Bangkok Chaos: Pickup Plummets From 4/FL Hospital Car Park

In a startling early morning incident, a Thai woman sent a pickup truck airborne from the fourth floor of a Bangkok hospital's multi-storey car park. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.

 

The events began to unfold at a parking structure in Bangkok's Phayathai district, at Phramongkutklao Hospital. As the morning rush hour kicked into gear around 7:24 AM on May 15th, a seemingly ordinary parking manoeuvre took a dramatic turn.

 

CCTV footage from the car park depicted a scene straight out of an action film. The lady driver, in her golden bronze Toyota Hilux Vigo, collided with a stationary black Toyota Hilux Revo. The black pickup was sent soaring over the car park's edge, plummeting onto the street below.

A separate street-level CCTV camera captured the pandemonium ensued as pedestrians and motorists alike dove for cover. The blanket of dust left behind in the wake of the plummeting pickup bore testament to the near-miss; two passing motorcyclists, having just left the spot where the car landed, were incredibly lucky to escape unharmed.

 

 

Onlookers report that the driver of the Vigo, a woman believed to be between 40 and 50 years old, appeared severely shaken as she awaited police from the Phayathai Station. Speaking to media later, she confessed that she had panicked when another car drove too close to her vehicle, causing her foot to hit the accelerator.

 

The owner of the ruined black pickup, who makes his living as a daily vendor at the hospital, proved remarkably understanding about his vehicle's dramatic end. Having resolved the matter amicably regarding the compensation, he confessed to being upset over the loss of his cherished car.

 

 

This incident takes us back to a similar accident reported in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok, in August 2022, where a driver had intentionally crashed his car through a shopping mall car park, falling onto the road below. While authorities sort out today's incident, one thing is certain – parking in multi-storey car parks in Bangkok has certainly taken on a more daring dimension.

Probably A case of mixing the brake pedal with the gas one, specially when wearing high heels or totally 

not with it due to fatigue... good thing no one got hurt, cars are replaclebes dead humans not so much..

The majority of Thai drivers do not belong behind the wheel of any vehicle. Not in a car park...and certainly not out on the roads.

She couldn't find any empty spot so, she made one. The idea of "pedal confusion" doesn't seem to really work here as she was able to stop her truck once it was properly in it's parking spot. The nonsensese of another vehicle driving to close is going to be a hard sell with no vehicles on the CCTV and she's on a one way ramp. I'm thinking she just got frustrated at lack of parking and took care of it herself.

i think when she bumped off the wall she freaked out and went into potato mode.

You'd be surprised how many do, especially when stressed of in a hurry, everytime you see in the news a car

  lunges forward into a structure with a rocket's speed you know the gas pedal was depressed wrongly..

People can suffer anxiety or panic attacks and do such things. I never pushed a car off a cliff, but I've done some things under such attacks. Not saying that's the case here though.

A good illustration of the crude underpinnings of a pick up. Ladder chassis ,solid axle and leaf springs . That’s why the ride is inferior to a car with proper IRS. 😉

Over 40 years of driving and not once have I mixed up the brake and accelerator pedal.Where is this alleged second car driving close as I can't see one on CCTV only many stationary cars.

My two year old has the same problem with his digger. Sometimes he goes forward when he wants to go backwards.   Machinery is so darn difficult to control.

Very unusual behaviour for a Thai after this kind of incident to wait for the police.

Looks like she was coming up on a ramp and just went straight into the truck without ever slowing down.  No way her story holds up other than keeping her foot on the accelerator.

 

Very lucky no one was crushed by the falling vehicle.
