Sword and Knife Fight Leaves French and Thai Men Injured in Phuket

For their honour and reliving the 17th and 18th centuries, they challenged each other to a duel.

Extracts from wikipedia:

"During the 17th and 18th centuries (and earlier), duels were mostly single combats fought with swords (the rapier and later the small sword)"

"The duel was based on a code of honour. Duels were fought not to kill the opponent but to gain "satisfaction", that is, to restore one's honour by demonstrating a willingness to risk one's life for it"

What about pistols at 20 paces? Wasn't that popular?

I think that came later with the English:

"...but beginning in the late 18th century in England, duels were more commonly fought using pistols. Fencing and shooting continued to coexist throughout the 19th century."

Never take a knife to a sword fight?

I was going to say that but it's not correct  '   ...   never take a knife to a gun fight is the correct version ..

Whatever happened to the good old days when if two men fought, they fought man-on-man with no weapons. Using a weapon is cowardly.

Yes, I know that thanks, a gun would have been preferable.

I'm for legalizing sword duels.

Most of the ruffians are still up at dawn anyway.

In the event the puritanicals get their way, they can convert all the newly vacant weed shops to fencing schools.

Think of the machismo of dueling scars and swaggering about with your sword.

Well said.... just imagine..someone gets on your wick... challenge em..pull out your claymore and give em the Conner Mcloud, Highlander haircut...

I prefer swords because you have to get up close and it's you and your skills versus your opponent. Guns are too easy! Also, a "zipper" on your body, after they've stitched you up, looks way more impressive than a bullet hole. 🤪

The most surprising thing is the Frenchman didn't surrender half way through the fight....

Or open his legs and bend over not once but twice
