Why are people like you and me fleeing Windows-11...for Linux Desktop? Now!

They only have high end phones and laptops.

I think it's more of a space saving thing along with ease of travel.

If I had the space Id love to have a top of the line desktop.

Be great for the kids and school projects.

Now, you are speaking logically.

You are correct.

If you do not have the space, or you cannot afford to stay in one place....then....

Just make do with a laptop.

Do you know how stupid you sound.

I suggest you put the chang down charge your laptop battery/phone up and have a sleep.

You went from saying nobody uses desktops to changing to saying only companies.

And good on you and well done with ordering your pad thai with the iPhone grab app.

Nothing wrong with using a desktop.

I know it's popular with the older generation.

Sorry...however....I just cannot let your very inaccurate comment stand:

a.  In fact, it is the case that DESKTOP computers are EXTREMELY popular with the young guys (not the older generation) who love computers.

b. Young guys who truly love computing and computers choose DESKTOPS as their first choice, and they also have a laptop, or two, as needed.

c.  ALL young kids who love computers love DESKTOPS....

They like to mod them out.

They like to add and subtract components.

They like to add HUGE GPUs, water-cooled, for example.

You, Sir, seemingly, know NOTHING about what the younger generation likes, in computing.

Why?

Because:  YOU, Sir, ARE the older generation.  Face up to it, Sir!

If you really want to watch some young guy....WITH BRAINS.....

Tell you a thing or two...about....

What the YOUNGER GENERATION....actually....

CARES ABOUT....concerning computers....then....

Please SUBSCRIBE to this guy!

This guy is FING Smart.....

And, he knows what the younger generation likes.....about computers.....

Yes, Sir....SUBSCRIBE and learn a thing, or two...

Why not?

I bought this case....

What do you think?

Good choice?

I did NOT choose the white color case, however.

I was afraid the white case might clash with the color of my humongous banana-wood computer desks.

NOTE:  This Guy is COOL!  He knows that of which he speaks....FOR SURE.....

Watch, SUBSCRIBE....and learn something....

Very few channels as satisfying as his.....

Note:  I am just trying to be helpful, and also to dispel ignorance whenever I encounter it.  No need to thank me, of course.

Before, or after, Red Hat was acquired by IBM?

It makes a difference.

When lifestyle arguments come into play about how to choose an operating system, you know the debate can be ignored.

More interesting than linux/vegan lifestyle boasters is the imminent launch of Laptops with NPU units that can run Copilot+

I don't expect that tech to be available on linux in the near future.

I wonder when NPU will be available on more powerful laptop mainboards such as Clevo's.

Ports?

You should be doing everything wirelessly.

I barely even bother with my laptop.  My Samsung Ultra 24 is more powerful than most PC's and with the Dex app you can use it on any big screen TV.  Your phone is the keyboard and my 82" inch Samsung TV is the moniter.

Kind of the same argument when VCR/cassette tape owners still wouldn't adopt CD's and DVD's.

and how much did your phone cost? The laptop I'm using cost me $200 3 years ago and does everything I want or need. I don't need aps or any of that stuff.

I'd hate having to use a tiny keyboard, or try to watch anything on a tiny phone screen.

Anyway, IMO most people using computers outside of work are just wasting time. I do nothing of any importance whatsoever on a computer other than e mail, and I include social media and porn ( apparently the most used categories on the internet ) as a complete waste of time. Yes I'm as guilty of wasting my time as any.

What is Boo? An illegal drug, alcoholic beverage, porn, a female, a male, something people say when trying to scare others? Do tell.

My NOTE4 cost me, NEW, Bt.20,000 in 2015, as I recall.

I will buy another phone in the year 2025.

Not sure which phone yet.

But, I will need apps.

And, I will need, at least, One TByte storage, and MAXIMUM RAM, of course.

That will be the last phone I will buy in my life.

After that, I won't do much communicating, is my guess.

To Kill a Mockingbird

First read the book.

Then watch the film.

Then....

Repeat.

I have that on DVD. Perhaps tonight. Don't have time in my busy life to read books- sleeping, eating, DVDs and on here takes up most of my time. I have at this time 3 books started months ago and not continued. I have about 200 DVDs waiting to be watched ( at $1 a time in op shops I have bought probably more than I have time left to watch them all ).

On that note, I should get off here and do something of more importance.

An amazing book.

As I recall, the author wrote only one book, but I might be mistaken.

Concerning doing something useful:  Why not work on the Global Warming issue, which seems rather pressing, at this particular time.

Alternatively:  Each and every morning, as I have mentioned, there is always a blessing to be said for excretion, which is also of utmost importance....

image.png.1aeed2eac96bd73aa89792402d7b745e.png

There is nothing more important in a person's life...other than....

Excretion.

As we age, we realize just how true this is.

If the planet is warming why is it so bleeding cold here? Heat- bring it on.

A samsung s24 may be a great phone but it is nowhere near as powerful as the pc's that we use and it would not work for the programs we use that need 3d rendering

I expect you just use emails/netflix/Lazada which is fine for a samsung s24 but you might as well save some money and have an s20

Using the phone as a keyboard and then using an 82" screen as a monitor is ok sat at home and great to watch football (which you could do without the phone)

Mustadmit if i was you i would not even use a laptop as the samsungs24 would probably be faster /quieter/cooler.

As for the vcr/cd argument well its not there yet but i agree maybe in 5 years or so it could be but you are not going to get the performance needed from a small phone which you can from a desktop just yet

You don't know what you're talking about.

Only a moron would buy a 4 year old phone.

Stick with you're desktop and Nokia from another era.

Next you'll be recommending fax machines and pagers.

You said that nobody uses Desktops

You keep with your Samsung s24

I understand it cost you a lot of money and you need to say its quicker than most pc"s

You still think you can run a business with a phone?
What a tw3t!

Had another play with Dex today
You really do need to update your laptop if you think Dex is so good.

You hyped up Dex so much and it was sh7te

Another 5 years but for now no thanks

Start a topic and see how many companies use Dex

plenty of youtube vids showing it cant be done

So many comments like below and this was one of the better ones

I enjoyed using DeX  but it’s not quite enough to make me ditch a laptop, yet. Using Dex as a computer for work made me realize what a polished experience desktop computing has become. That’s not to say Dex is bad, it's just there are still a few niggles that prevent me from resorting to switching over permanently.

You owe me for the time I spent watching that. Very dated, somewhat boring and very 1950s movie with not much to say and taking a long time to say it.

I defo won't be reading the book.

Only good thing in the movie IMO was Peck. Excellent as always. No idea why you would reference Boo in an earlier post.

For engineering work Excel is absolutely the best. The rest of Office is OK but I don't need it.

Now that I'm retired I still prefer excel after using open office.

I'm getting a new laptop soon and will give win11 a chance but will enter the Linux world if 11 is too intrusive.
