5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx

The website says:  5 business days, not counting the day of submission.
So of course you will have to wait for weekend too.
I planned 1(submit) +5 (process) + 2 (weekend) + 1(spare) days.

          09:00–11:00 AM     document submission (no appointment required)
          03:00–04:00 PM     visa collection

          Visa processing times (NOT including day of submission)*
          5 working days (NOT include the Day of Submission) for all types of visa 


And yes before (in 2017 at least) the processing time was shorter, only 3 days (they have an example from old times, read below).

(for example, if you apply on Monday, you can pick up your passport on Thursday)

There is a post on the Thai visa advice Facebook group of a guy who got his DTV using dentist appointments to get Invisalign teeth straightening. The bar for a medical DTV is pretty low at the UK Thai consulate.

My friends' application to UK was very good, I thought, £50K+ sterling in his UK bank, contract from his employers stating his salary, and contract (made me weep looking at it). I thought it would sail though

 

A few days after he applied (yesterday), got an email saying need flight details (why) and a letter of contract from his country, which he already gave, plus another photo, first one seemed fine to me

 

Too late now he has lost his £300 as he flies tonight, and too late to get another letter from his company

 

He had to leave it last minute because only just got back to the UK last week, he is exactly the type of person they want in the country, he rents a top end condo, spends like crazy

for E-Visa tickets are required as a proof that he is in his country ( UK ) right now.

I understand that, plenty of proof he has a passport/house/driving licence/ bank account in the UK

 

it's not the ticket that's the problem, they want another letter/contract from his company.

 

Anyway never mind he will get his 90 days here no problem

There are many examples of remote workers getting a DTV. Examples of using a class (soft power) or a medical appointment are few. I posted to point out that you don’t have to be getting brain surgery to use medical treatment to qualify for a DTV. A few dental appointments worked for in this particular instance.

I would apply in-person in Vientiane, Laos, if he wants to stay longer.

Every time you enter you will be given 180 days permission to stay, if you want to stay longer than this you will need an extension but you can not stay more than 360 days without leaving the country. 

 

Once you leave the country, come back the next day & you will be given 180 days again... Rinse & Repeat for 5 years. 

 

 

Edit: Rough Schedule (I'm assuming 30 days per month every month, it's just a rough schedule).

• Jan-June In Thailand then make a decision, extend for 180 days or leave Thailand for at least 1 night
• July-Dec In Thailand then If extended last time, need to leave Thailand otherwise can choose to Extend or leave for at least 1 night

Zero, the Visa is Multi-Entry so you'll be given 180 days permission to stay each time. 

 

The only time you'll need to pay is if you decide to do an extension (1,900B) instead of a Border Bounce.

Not sure if a border bounce will work.  I think it says you need to leave for at least one day.

damn . this is sweet.  i did a smart visa and i end up paying 50000 thb . that also after 5 year i have to show document

The official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who has been interviewed a couple of times said you can’t return same day. Someone is just going to have to test the system. That person just has to plan on an overnight stay and if they can’t return the same day then they return the next day and then . . . the mystery is over.

No flight tickets not required in the application. In fact there is nowhere in the application where you can upload flights tickets applying from the Uk. It asks you to enter your flight date and flight number but nowhere to upload the ticket.

 

They did ask for additional documents for me showing a tax return so I simply uploaded tax return along with a letter from my accountant.

Strange. I received a DTV a week after it launched. No flight details given or requested. No contract or tax return requested. I just wrote a short letter on Limited Company headed paper entitled 'Confirmation of Employment' and stating I was an employee of the company. Signed it myself.

I know someone who is a 'hobby vlogger' - early retired and makes 'walk through videos'. No real income generated. Just supplied a link to his webpage/online portfolio. Got the DTV.  

Probably depends which administrator deals with your application.....

Maybe there was some reason to suspect that he wasn't in the country where he was supposed to be at the time of application.

Not sure if that's really the case, but if you're going to the trouble of traveling to a border then you might as well spend a few days outside of the country before returning.

I applied for Muay Thai classes. At the Thai Embassy they said they need a business registration from the Muay Thai institution. The Muay Thai Gym isn't sure what that. What is it so I can tell them?

I'm also in KL where they said they only accepted 2 DTV so far this year. Maybe I should fly to Laos or Cambodia where it's easy?

Just got my DTV from Laos. Over all was very easy, took two days, no request for additional documents. 

Ill try an be as detailed as possible to help others!

I am a British citizen. Ive been in Thailand for about 2 years now previously to this, first border runs and then ED visa. This caused me no issue, my passport is literally just thai entry stamps. 

I provided;

Passport scan. Was no need to scan my laos visa or provide proof of location. He did ask where i was staying and i verbally told him.

Proof of work
Letter from a director of a studio i work with, not for just with. I am not an employee and the letter was just detailing that we have worked together for 4 years, continue to want to work together and remote is fine.
My companies house registration of my own company. Im not the sole owner, so i highlighted my name and explained why the address is not the same as my permanent address.
I provided my two most recent invoices with screenshots showing it going into my account.
My tax return for 22/23.
Screenshots of my personal portfolio, my website and even my Linkedin.

Proof of financials.

I provided bank statements for 3 months from my Revolut account. I in no way had 500,000 THB in my account for that enitre period just for about one month, so i think they just cared about the closing balance, which i highlighted. This was my main concern as i didnt have 500k up until about June. I also provided the statements of my savings account, as i transfered money from this account into my current to show one account with 500k. These documents where not stamped or verified they where simply the invoices the app produces.

So ye going into it i was a bit stressed but honestly its a very quick, easy procedure. The embassy in Vientiane isn't particularly fancy. You book an appointment online, go to the location and literally stand in a que. When its your turn, you talk to the immigration officer through a small window, i felt like he was a bit rushed but over all polite. The whole thing lasted 5 mins max if that.

At first he asked what Visa, he then methodically went through my documents taking only the necessary documents. So first he found my passport scans, and then the proof of employment and then financials. For employment and financials he asked me to explain to him what they where and how they met the requirements.  I had provided cover letters to explain what my documents where but he gave those back to me without even reading them, just taking the necessary documents. 

The questions he asked were basic, like what do you do? oh is that remote. how do you find work etc. and for the financials he asked me how much bhat that was and where on the statement does it show the dates. At first he thought i provided only one month and was going to ask me to print out more but he let me show him where it shows May, June, July etc.

He then asked if i have a Laos number incase they needed to contact me. I said my Thai number works here.

If you want to get it done in Laos i don't think its overly strict. Maybe i got lucky with the immigration officer but over all i think they are there to help you so try not to stress. Make sure to book the appointment weeks in advance, on Fridays they show extended slots for the following week i got my appointment that way luckily. I would recommend doing it on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday as it takes 2 days and honestly theres not a lot to do in Vientaine, its okay for a few days.

thank you, very helpful! I'm doing my DTV there in a couple weeks, one question I have is what did you provide for proof of location? Since you were just in Laos to do the visa, what did you provide, your hotel booking in Vientiane? Anything else requested for that?

They didn't ask for proof of location, my documents were all related to my mums address in Scotland. When i spoke to the immigration officer he just asked where i was staying in Laos, i just verbally said the hotel didn't provide any further proof.

99% of people doing 'border bounces' do not do that.  There are van/bus services all over Thailand that specialize in same day round trip service.  The nearest border to Pattaya (Ban Pakkad) has almost nothing around there besides casinos, which I have no interest in.

Sounds like it was pushed back down to a subordinate.  I would expect another request for more documents - but who knows.
